WXYZ Off the air?

Post by The Constant Browser » Wed Oct 11, 2017 11:54 am

WXYZ-TV, Bounce and Laff, have not been on Comcast in Macomb county all morning, in addition checking over the air, I show no signal for 7.1 or 7.2 or 7.3

Big power outage at channel 7 Broadcast House. They are going to do their Noon newscast on Facebook Live (and probably on wxyz.com).

Just came back on at 12:10. I had the TV on while I typed just in case. By the way, they have a backup generator however when I was there the switchover wasn't that great between generator and DTE feed. Oh, and there was two DTE lines to Broadcast House so the outage one would revert to the other line and if that failed the generator was next.

They are doing the Noon newscast from the newsroom. The break around 12:20 had no commercials, just one channel 7 promo after another.

7.1, .2, and .3 are all the same signal, just separate data streams. So if there's no RF out of the transmitter, no OTA signals to see. Since power was out to the whole facility, there was also no program feed via the usual fiber connection to Comcast and other cable providers.

The story, elsewhere on their website says:
The issue happened just before 9:30 a.m. and we're told a DTE box blew up twice, which is like the fuse box at home but much, much larger.

Our generators are working but we can't get the power into the building due to the box blowing up.

Water got into station equipment which caused the outage and fuses to malfunction.

So, no backup for the backup.

I've seen that before at a workplace where water got into something and took out the main Internet Line. Wouldn't have been that big a deal except for it affected both Internet and Phones ...... going to a Worldwide Call Center. :o

It was fixed but we didn't have much to do that day ;)

I saw something similar with a school...except it wasn't water. The wiring was to close to the heating ducts in the floor, and the wiring literally melted and shorted out. Half the building was out of power.
