FM Radio on Cell Phone

Post by Turkeytop » Sun Jan 14, 2018 7:52 pm

The last time I was here in Florida, I bought one of the cheap flip phones with a pay as you go plan. It had a feature that allowed the user to listen to FM radio. Is there really an FM radio receiver built into the device? Or is it just the programs of the FM stations being sent out over the cell phone network?

Try it with headphones...if you can scan the dial it's not internet.

There is an FM receiver in my Moto G4. I just put it in "airplane mode" which cuts all outside communication (Internet, text, phone) and tried the radio and it works. So in my phone its a stand alone "app". It also requires headphones for good reception as they act as an antenna.

I did the same thing on an airplane - it was neat if you have a window seat!

So, even if the person doesn't have an active cell plan, he could still listen to the radio?
