Computer Static

Post by sfpcc » Tue Oct 11, 2016 7:10 pm

About last month I got a new computer, a Dell Inspiron-15 5000 series. It works well except I have a problem with the sound. When I listen to Rhapsody or You Tube it's kind of staticy. I'm thinking it might be a audio card, but since I use my computer for work purposes I don't want to go into its innards for reasons that aren't necissary. Does anyone out there have any sugestions?

Call tech support. Dell has all kinds of diagnostic tools to figure things out.

Clipping can sound like static. If reducing the volume on the computer does not help then it's a different issue.

I fixed the static problem by switching browsers from Google Chrome to Microsoft Edge

Chrome is a resource hog, and its integrated Flash modules were probably not using hardware acceleration.

I believe Edge has hardware acceleration enabled by default. Can't double check that though - I'm on my Linux Mint drive instead of Windows 10.
