Brother Stair still on the radio

Unread post by 80sTalkRadioFan »

While visiting family near New York City last week, I happened to hear old "Brother Stair" on the radio early one morning while flipping through the am dial. I think the station was am 620 WSNR. Surprised he's still buying radio time. Thought he was either in jail or dead. Hard to mistake his raspy voice with a lisp. I first heard him several years ago on am 1530 WCKY Cincinnati. Is he still on that station as well? His voice is unmistakable but even rougher than I remembered.

He was only in jail for about a year. After his release he immediately returned to broadcasting. He must have a lot of followers and contributors He has hours of programming time bought each week on WRMI Miami and on WBCQ in Monticello, Maine.

Some of us call him Brother Scare.

That is a good name for him. I checked am 1530 WCKY Cincinnati around 1:00 AM yesterday and he was not on that station at that time. They aired their usual ESPN Radio programming, "Sportscenter All Night" so unless they moved him to a different time slot, he may be finally gone from that station.

I call him Brother Stare, LOL... he is ALL over shortwave, well beyond those 2 stations mentioned. He just purchased the entire overnight block on Channel 292 SW out of the Netherlands. If someone hooked a linear to a baby monitor on 49MHz, he'd probably buy time on it!

I heard him on an FM station near Findlay Ohio, I think it was 94.1fm. That was long ago though, OMG he is very creepy.

One thing I don't understand is why "ministries" continue to broadcast years after the guy croaks. Gene Scott, for one. Or years after these ministers failed outright, Harold Camping. I know Camping is pretty much gone from the airwaves since the dissolution of Family Radio, but I heard a Gene Scott broadcast within the last couple years.

I remember hearing some guy, Popoff or Rolloff or something like that, used to plunk at a piano and sing *really* bad, then go into that typical "start a sentence really soft and increase voice level until screaming by the last word" delivery, who has been dead for years on end. I heard him DXing around AM one night not long ago.

My guess is it's just the families milking the ministry for all it's worth.

Family Radio is gone from short wave, but they're still around on AM and FM at various cities in the US.. They officially dropped all of Camping's programs earlier this year. Gene Scott is still broadcasting from the grave but his daughter Melissa has mostly taken over.

Yeah, I thought Family Radio sold all their AM stations to focus on the FM's and the end of time, but Harold Camping's time arrived before (or after) the end-days as he predicted. A co-worked of mine took some heat for using up his vacation time so he wouldn't be raptured at work! I digress....
Question, so did Family Radio actually purchase the clear channel signal of 1560 in NYC, despite not wanting to buy any AM stations? And is it a 'rent to own', lease, or oughtright purchase? 1560 Toledo is limited to 3W at night, and not so much for 1560 NYC, but based on sundown in Bakersfield, if I'm not mistaken?

And, about 10+ years ago, when 1530 was WSAI instead of CKY they played standards music- and at Christmas time it was quite nice, then, the voice of thunder appeared and the 5 minute introduction to the Reverend Stair came flying out of 1530 - moved the dial real quick-like.

I'm not 100 percent sure on this but I think Melissa is his widow.

Melissa is indeed his widow. Porn actress turned preacher.

1530 still has some religious programming at 3AM or something like that.
