2017 Network Primetime Cancellations

Post by mtburb » Fri May 12, 2017 5:37 pm

This is the time of year where the networks reveal specific shows that will not be on the schedule come next season and drop the ax on them. This season they are:
ABC
-Last Man Standing (starred our state's own Tim Allen, this made this show his successor to Home Improvement!)
-Time After Time
-Conviction
-American Crime
-Secrets and Lies
-Imaginary Mary (a cute show that I was just starting to get into as well!)
-Doctor Ken
-The Real O'Neals
-The Catch
CBS
-Doubt
-Pure Genius
The CW
-Frequency
-No Tomorrow
Fox
-Sleepy Hollow
-Rosewood
-Pitch
-Son of Zorn (there goes the Space Jam TV animation method!)
-Making History
-APB
NBC
-Timeless (I guess period shows HAVE been falling out of style since Happy Days got the ax back in '84!)
-Emerald City (ending another chapter in the history of the Wizard of Oz franchise)
-Powerless
-The Blacklist: Redemption

Cable cancellations include Sweet/Vicious (MTV), Outsiders (WGN America, though I doubt the Sinclair-Tribune acquisition had anything to do with it), Eyewitness (USA), Girl Meets World (Disney Channel), Incorporated (Syfy), The Knick (Cinemax) and Man Seeking Woman (FXX).

For three days in January 2017 (15th, 16th, 19th) and one night in September 2017 (22nd), I managed to receive KDKA Pittsburgh from 202 miles away indoors!

I knew that would get cancelled soon

One time, I got WYZZ Peoria 330 miles away indoors clearly for 10 minutes on Dec 5, 2015

I heard Two Broke Girls was also cancelled.

Girl Meets World actually ended last January 20. The Creator / Producer couldn't find another home for it. Liv And Maddie also ended its run. Disney shows usually only last three to four years, (with the exception of Phinneas And Ferb.)

Powerless

That show was a major disappointment.

tvradiojunkie: that's the best news I've had all day- I really like 'Timeless' - and the story has enough REAL history that it forces me to look-up information and find out that it IS true. (most interesting 80's episode was the 1983 episode based at Toledo Express Airport- even showed Detroit radar with Tornado warning for Fulton and Lucas Counties)

The only 2 we watched. My wife and I both very much loved Last Man Standing. We felt it handled the conservative/liberal divided extremely well. For me it was the best comedy on TV.

Powerless, Timeless were okay. Redemption was fantastic. I think NBC should continue with the one word names for their shows. Blindspot, Blacklist... All of that.

Oh, yeah and killing Last Man Standing is criminal. The numbers were better than some of the crap that ABC kept.

Pretty Little Liars is also ending in a few weeks, (though it's not really a cancelation. The producers and Free Form took that show as far as it could.)

Actually there have been a few period shows in the last 33 years:

Mad Men
That 70's Show
Dr Quinn Medicine Woman, ( or any Western, the American West was a period of time)
The Goldbergs
Fresh Of The Boat (I don't watch either of those two shows but they are in the middle of pretty good runs.)
Quantum Leap
Crime Story (only ran two seasons but it was a great show.)
American Dreams (ran around four seasons, took place in the 50's)
The second and fourth season of American Horror Story (Asylum and Freakshow)
The People Vs OJ Simpson

I guess I can think of a few more.

Once Upon A Time is returning, but much of the cast is leaving:
Jennifer Morrison (Emma)
Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow White)
Josh Dallas (Prince Charming)
Emile De Ravin (Belle)
Rebecca Mader (Zeleda / The Wicked Witch)
Jared Gilmore (Henry. His Character is being recast as an adult.)

Last Man Standing is a puzzling cancellation. Granted, it didn't pull spectacular numbers, but it was a solid Friday-night anchor show for ABC. I likened it to a more lighthearted version of All in the Family.

Frequency started out good, but the story line just bounced around too much. Lost me after about four episodes.

Son of Zorn might have been better without the constant bathroom humor. Seems like their target audience was the frat crowd who thought any kind of sex reference was funny. Didn't find much intelligent humor in it.

Rest of the shows are off my radar. My weekly TV routine consists primarily of Arrow and Shark Tank, both of which are renewed.

YouTube is the Public Access Channel on Crack.

ABC just cancelled Downward Dog. I'm watching the last episode right now. I thought it was a clever show, (and I'm a cat person.)

After roughly a year the second season of Timeless just started. Did anyone watch it, (or are watching right now?)

1st time watching it (off and on) last night... 'The War to End All Wars'.

What was the name of the small Michigan town the ill-fated soldier (who brought the injured soldier in to be operated on) said he was from?
