Using Stern to replace Simon Cowell would be a great move for American Idol.

That show needs a shot in the arm anyway. Simon got out at a good time.
Stern would bring in a whole segment of audience that never would have watched that show.

I wish they would both go away, far away.

I think if this materializes, Howard should be allowed to bring a wack packer with him each week to serve as the 4th judge.

No way in hell Howard gives up his radio show, though. Either he'll relocate to Los Angeles while Idol is taping or he'll turn them down, with the latter being the more likely possibility.

It wouldn't surprise me if he appears as as "guest judge" at some point, but I cannot see him accepting the job full-time. Moreover, if he were to land there permanently, all the soccer moms would be up in arms. He would evoke a firestorm of protest.

Why would Stern want to work more? He was paid half a billion to work roughly 12 days per month with every Friday off and one week off per month. His fans are blind to the fact that he just does not care anymore about his show, or them.

Maybe the move to Idol makes sense. I will not watch that idiotic show that glamorizes karaoke, but from what I have heard, it sounds like the judges are barely in the show, and if that's the case and it makes less work for the old man, he might be all for it. But then he would have to either give up the radio show or cut back to three days per week, two weeks per month.

And people will still think he is a God.

A H*** protest about a new judge on American Idol could send that show's ratings into the stratosphere!

As far as the soccer moms go....most of them will watch regardless.

I'm also sure that Stern would insist on his own writer.

I disagree. I think a lot of them would be repelled by Stern's presence.

Stern would make a good replacement for Simon. When it comes to judging what others do, Stern is in a class with Simon. As been pointed out already. Stern love living in New York, I don't see him wanting to relocate. He has stated he hates flying, I don't see him flying a cross country every week.

There is maybe something to that statement. But what are AI's options?
I give AI credit, they started out their judging team with a has-been, a never-was and a WTHIT?

TV never has been known to develop talent. Even in the old days they used the talent pool from radio. In fact many of those on the TV talent hall of fame have radio roots. Mike Wallace, Bill Cosby, Johnny Carson, Pat Sajak....all with radio on their resumes.

What does Howard know about singing? I know he has worked in radio for years, but does he know if someone is off pitch or if they are singing a song with the correct style? Simon, Randy, Paula and Kara have backrounds in the music industry and they know how to spot talent. I had issues with Ellen being added as a judge since I don't know if she has any musical credentials and I would wonder the same about Howard. It seems with this type of show you should have judges with a backround of being a performer, a music producer or a songwriter.

I first thought the title of this thread was:

Howard Stern - American Idiot :lol
