The funniest thing about beer down there is, in my hubbliest of opinion, I've never had an Arizona brewed product that was worth a lick (my theory being most important component is the water is barely drinkable) but I've never found a Mexican brew I didn't enjoy although you can bet the water more South is probably even worse.

Odd set of circumstances...

I've had a couple beers from SanTan that were good and McFate Brewing in Scottsdale (I think it's just called "Fate Brewing" now) used to do a Hatch Green Chile ale that was fucking outstanding...

There's a small place in Avondale called 8-Bit Aleworks we've gone to twice now (once last year and this last Tuesday) where they provide free bottled water. I didn't think to ask how they brewed the beer, but given the quality, I'm assuming they aren't using the tap. TCBC is another good find, and it's in Litchfield Park. I've had a few from SanTan and they've been pretty decent.

SanTan used to have a killer brunch menu, not so much recently. But the beer is still solid! They have a good distillery just down the way as well. They make a really good smoked old fashioned.

I had never heard of it before....not much of a whiskey guy. It really is something special. Very smooth,especially with the rare bourbon he was pouring.

I'm in Scottsdale for almost 2 weeks every January for work... I always stay at that Hampton Inn on Scottsdale and Gold Dust and Fate had a little taproom on Shea I could walk to from the hotel. Unfortunately it closed a couple years ago.

I hope the hell you've gotten something to nosh on at New York Bagels 'N Bialys across the street. Man, I still have dreams about those onion bagels. The Egg-A-Bagel with an onion bagel, chive schemer and bacon is a hellava nice way to start the day. I'd also occasionally stop in at Ernie's sports bar. Odd little place but a nice respite from the typical Scottsdale crowd.

Odd little place but a nice respite from the typical Scottsdale crowd.

Oh, I've had their onion bagels more than a few times. I'm glad a complete stranger can back me up on those because I've said for years they're the best bagels I've ever had. And Ernie's is a nightly stop for me after I get back to the hotel. Shower up, walk to Ernie's and just sit there and have a few cigs and 3-4 beers and then walk back to the hotel. 5-minute walk so it's perfect. Sometimes if the mood struck and I wasn't ready to go to bed I'd duck into that shithole Dirty Dogg Saloon for a nightcap but holy crap is that place fucked up.

Il Bosco is a spot we usually try to hit 1-2 times for pizza and beers too.
