I guess it's good to friends like Newsom. Laws that apply to thee and not ye.

However, the new law comes with the curious provision of exempting the wage hike for restaurants that sell bread as a standalone item.
In related news, McDonalds locations in California will soon see a new menu item...

Subway already bakes bread daily. All they have to do is add it to the menu and they get the break too.

They're already doing footlong cookies and pretzels. Footlong bread isn't a far stretch.

Without reading the legislation, assuming it is that simple - you can bet that every single chain that would save money by baking their own bread and selling it will do so (in CA, anyways).

Interesting menu compared to the Metro Detroit. Don't cost as much.

A thought and a pet peeve.

What was the rational in having the bread exception included in the law. That just seems like a purely political move to facilitate exactly what happened.

My pet peeve. The writer telling us what someone said on Twitter. Then showing the same tweet. How about one or the other? Sorry just bugs me a bit. You see it a lot.

From what I have heard on news shows and read a big Newsome donor has something to do with Panera and it was written in to give them a pass on the 20 dollar an hour wage. Haven't verified that but that is what is being said and written.

Has Newsom ever explained the purpose of the exemption?
