Feds to ban funny state-owned road signs

Post by bmw » Sun Jan 14, 2024 6:44 pm

Among those that will be disappearing are messages such as "Use Yah Blinkah" in Massachusetts; "Visiting in-laws? Slow down, get there late," from Ohio; "Don't drive Star Spangled Hammered," from Pennsylvania; "Hocus pocus, drive with focus" from New Jersey; and "Hands on the wheel, not your meal" from Arizona.
Of all the various things that make driving dangerous, and this is what the feds go after?

Federal highways… I can see how looking over at a sign for awhile reading the dumb thing could be a problem in heavy traffic. Maybe not up on 75 by Grayling. But I guess they want to take the fun out of everything so serious conversation only please.

I think reading something stupid like, "Mask up, and stay safe!" on I-95 in Virginia when the road is closed ahead, stranding unsuspecting motorists for 27 hours, is much more egregious.

It might as well have read "Ease up on the throttle, when you're sippin' on that bottle"
"Don't you knock when you enter a room?"

Why? Because it offends your sensibilities?

Ease up on that mouse because clearly you’ve been drinking in your house.

Obviously, you don't remember the story, which doesn't surprise me one bit.

I don’t because I never heard it. I think my line was pretty damn clever.

Kentucky used to have highway signs saying -
Slow dow. Racin is for horses.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

Wonder if they're gonna pull down the "Big Beaver Exit 69" in Troy?
New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

There's one in Kentucky on I 75, directing travelers to Big Bone Lick.

I think TC Talks has a place there.

There's some lovely bourbon in Kentucky, and not much else.

I definitely remember those.
They/them, non-binary and proud.

Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.

Dammit. I always wanted that job. Who the hell gets paid to sit around and think these up?

Don't be an ass, drive slow not fast
If you get road head, you could wind up dead
Don't beat your meat in the driver's seat
Don't be a clown, turn your radio down

I mean, imagine making a living off this stuff.

Originally, it was done in the MITS Center, above the Greyhound station, near the Lodge and Howard St. MSP dispatch shared the room with the changeable message sign and camera operators. MDOT's engineering staff was up there, in the office section. Essentially, a whole lot of people who really didn't get along, grumping around, and drinking a lot of free coffee. No idea if the MITS people are still there or not. MITS stands for "Michigan Intelligent Transportation Systems"

They built a fancy new building straight across the parking lot on the other side of Lafayette for MDOT. Everything upstairs is empty and its been torn apart pretty good by the elements/moving out/burst pipe.
