The simple truth is we don't know what was the mindset of some of those who took part. To say you know for sure one way or the other is opinion and nothing more.

Were they trying to OVERTHROW the government?

They were trying to establish a permanent Trump reign. He would not have left office in 2024. He would say “I have the right to be here for life” and find a way to get his way. All these only work because everybody agrees that’s the rules. If half the country decides they don’t like the rules and want to ignore them that’s not some small deal.

You don’t consider a bunch of armed folks breaking into the Capitol with the intent to kill members of the other party and force their party to do their bidding at gunpoint to be a problem? Not only are you divorced from reality but it has a restraining order against you.

And just how do you suppose they were going to pull that off?

You must speak from experience when you talk about "divorced from reality"!

They hadn’t a snowballs chance in hell. The problem is that they tried it in the first place. Normalizing that behavior will embolden them to try something else. It will also ruin the peaceful transfer of power and cause the system to start to fail. What good comes out of any of that?

The fact that so many are putting so much emphasis that it could have actually had ANY effect is the problem and that will embolden others to try things similar. No question about it.
