His last name is Gonzalez.
He speaks Spanish.
He has a big ol’ sombrero.
This is cultural appropriation. He needs to be canceled NOW!

“Dick Tracy calling Joe Jitsu.”
- Detective Dick Tracy speaking into his wrist watch walkie- talkie.
“I say, I say, look at me boy, when I’m talkin’ to ya!”
- the Rooster with the American Southern accent Foghorn Leghorn talking to another character.
“Hey, Baba Looey, are ya alright? Si, right!”
-The horse QuickDraw McGraw and Sombrero-wearing donkey sidekick Baba Looey conversing.
At least three days worth of grist for the Fox News mill. Don’t ya think?

Here's the thing about all the examples given in this thread. Who under the age of 40 has even heard about them up until they got drudged up?
Now thanks to Charles M. Blow, a new generation is learning about Pepe Le Pew.

I'm a tad bit under that age and grew up with these cartoons - Looney Tunes were a mainstay on Nickelodeon in the late 80s and early 90s.Mike Oxlong wrote: ↑Sun Mar 07, 2021 2:34 pmHere's the thing about all the examples given in this thread. Same - I think the age cutoff is probably closer to 32-34 and up.bmw wrote: ↑Sun Mar 07, 2021 2:53 pmI'm a tad bit under that age and grew up with these cartoons - Looney Tunes were a mainstay on Nickelodeon in the late 80s and early 90s.Mike Oxlong wrote: ↑Sun Mar 07, 2021 2:34 pmHere's the thing about all the examples given in this thread. Almost all comic/cartoon animation is caricature. Exaggeration of features, antics, accents, clothing, jewelry, etc.
What’s comedy coming to?
I know. Each ethnic, racial, religious, political, and regional group can turn out comedy about itself, for itself.
Performers - including drawn/animated performers - will turn out comedy material about themselves and their group. And audience members will also be from that same group.
That way nobody is insulting anyone - except - others from their very same group. And audience members will know ahead of time that this is the new rule.

Re: Pepe Le Pew & Speedy Gonzales
Depends. Some folks might tolerate and find funny humor about any member of any of the groups I mentioned performed by anybody - no matter the performer’s group.
And some may not tolerate it nor find it funny.

And the funny thing is that Nickelodeon used to air 1930s cartoons starring "Bosko", a stereotypical black kid.bmw wrote: ↑Sun Mar 07, 2021 2:53 pmI'm a tad bit under that age and grew up with these cartoons - Looney Tunes were a mainstay on Nickelodeon in the late 80s and early 90s.Mike Oxlong wrote: ↑Sun Mar 07, 2021 2:34 pmHere's the thing about all the examples given in this thread.
