People thought TV would kill AM by 1960, so AM evolved to music.
People thought FM would kill AM by 1985, so AM evolved to talk, news and sports.
Now people think the internet will kill AM by 2025, so AM will evolve to......something. More niche formats. Foreign languages, brokered, religious. The God squad still uses freakin' shortwave, for crying out loud.
Some stations will go dark, maybe even a lot of them. But AM will still be around in some form.
