COPD

Post by stopnswop2 » Wed Jan 23, 2019 2:29 am

First: yes I was serious when I said I have way too many medical problems for a 27 year old. ( I have a theory as to why though )

So who on here has COPD (Chronic Bronchitis / Emphysema) ?

If so, what inhalers are you on and other medications/management tools for it?

For me I am on:
Rescue Inhaler: Xopenex (Levalbuterol) & Atrovent (Ipratropium Bromide)
Maintenance Inhaler: Symbicort (Budesonide / Formoterol Fumarate) & Spiriva Respimat (Tiotropium Bromide)

I have frequent flair-ups so I'm on prednisone A LOT. More than anyone should be.

I'm looking to switch my maintenance inhalers though due to the extremely frequent flair ups.
I hate my Pulmonologist's office though. I can never get in and when I do go, I'm there for 4 hours and see him for only like 5 min (or his PA, who seems mental, lol)

I work with a guy who has it and he uses a Nebulizer twice a day. Says it helps a lot.

I don’t have but could be a candidate for it, I used to smoke cigarettes from 1967- 2010, I quit cold turkey in 2010, Yes I started smoking at 12 years old, Now with me smoking for 43 years could I be a candidate for COPD I don’t know, Possibly other things Like Congestive Heart Failure or even Cancer Who knows I am healthy today workout 7 days a week, And have a clean bill of health. Thank God for that one.

Anyone that smokes is a candidate for getting it.

I started smoking when I was around 12 or 13 too. I thought I was invincible. I was stupid.
I never thought I would get emphysema in my 20s though.

Cherish every breath you take. Don't take your ability to breath for granted.
This disease is awful.
Walking up stairs feels like climbing Mt. Everest.
I get breathless from just talking sometimes.

You know it buddy, I lost my first Love to Cancer in ‘95, but yet from the time of Carol’s death to 2010 I was totally stupid in smoking an additional 15 years and you think after losing my Wife to the big C, I would have been smarter, But I did quit the cigarette thing. Thank God!
