If only for a day, rookie call-up Wenceel Perez is da man! :smokin This despite the earlier faux pas in the outfield which might have made him da goat (small letters).
Meadows has so much range, he should have more authority in the outfield to call off the corner outfielders on fly balls.
You could see Meadows calling him off, but Perez either didn't hear him or heed him.

And Tork just let a potential double-play ground ball slip under his glove through his legs. It ultimately led to two runs.

HEY! No bad words about Tork here!

At least he has his power numbers up with his slugging perc.......never mind.

Last year Torkelson gave the impression that he was a good fielding first baseman, mostly because of the way he scooped up errant throws. But later the analytics numbers said otherwise.

This year we won't need the analytics numbers to tell us that he's not a good fielding first baseman.

Everytime I see one of these misplays, I keep thinking about A.J. Hinch at the end of spring training saying, "Well, we've done all our work." It looks like they need to do a little more work.

He's gotten worse since the shift rule. 2 years ago, if a ball was hit to the right side, he would just run back to first. Now, he actually has to field his position and his limitations are more apparent.

EDIT: Tork the DH today.

Don't worry, I've heard he "plays a good first base."

If you're quoting me from earlier, Matt, you'll see I've since back-pedaled from that statement. If you're not quoting me, well, never mind then. :razz

Also, good observation concerning the shift rule, Honeyman. And even his scoops aren't what we're used to seeing.

Back in the old days, there was "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain."

For the Tigers this season, is it going to be "Skubal and Mize and pray for cloudy skies?"

Riley Greene has turned into a real scoring machine. He's hitting only .231, but he's scored 18 runs in 23 games, on 18 hits and a league-leading 20 walks. Why did they ever consider Parker Meadows for the leadoff spot?

Flaherty looked darn good his last time out, it was fielding faux pas that did him in. Olsen has also shown good stuff. Maeda, on the other hand.... Maybe one rainy day in five? :razz

Detroit is 9-3 on the road thus far.

Maeda and Flaherty have the next two starts in St. Petersburg.

Tyler Alexander is going for the Rays tomorrow night.

Baez is moving up, batting 6th.

Meadows hitting .093 moved down to 8th.

The fact the Tigers are mediocre at home and great on the road suggests to me the dimensions of Comerica Park remain an issue.

Interestingly, the Red Sox have a similar situation in terms of win percentage season to date.
Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.

How soon can we start talking about a Colt Keith/Buddy Kennedy platoon at second base? I know that would mess with A.J. Hinch's chess game, and make things crowded when Ibanez and Urshela return, but it's worth a thought. Kennedy has more major league experience than Keith. Colt & Buddy: sounds like a pair of cowboys from an old B movie.

And I hope that Mark Canha gets more playing time at first base. He's 6/12 in the last three games, two of them at first. And he can't be any worse than Torkelson with the glove.

The Tigers start Mize and Skubal today and tomorrow. The team has an 8-1 record in their starts. Hopefully they will make up for that dreadful ninth inning yesterday.

Something about them brings out the best in the Tiger hitters. And something about poor Reese Olson seems to bring out the worst.

Run support so far for the Tiger rotation:

Skubal: 5.23 per 27 outs
Mize: 5.11
Maeda: 4.22
Flaherty: 3.68
Olson: 2.35

Baltimore just sent top prospect Jackson Holliday down to the minors after he hit only .059.

Meanwhile, Tigers center fielder Parker Meadows stays in the majors despite hitting only .079.
