Alabama doesn't belong over 13-0 FSU with this resume:
They were tied with a 6-6 Group of 5 team, USF late in fourth quarter. They beat 4-8 Arkansas by 3 points at home. They needed a muffed punt and a 4th and 31 miracle to beat 6-6 Auburn. Nothing about that says top 4 team.
You are just afraid to play them. To say FSU is a better team than Alabama is ludicrous.
To exclude an undefeated team is ludicrous.

No - I just don't think a 13-0 conference champion should be excluded.

So Michigan and Washington are locks.

I also agree with Honeyman that there is NO WAY that the SEC gets left out. Between Alabama and Georgia, I would argue that Georgia is the better team, but I think Alabama gets in.

That leaves a debate between Texas and Florida State. No doubt FSU is barely even a top 10 team without their QB, but is that really relevant to the committee? Texas is a good team - frankly, I think they're better than Alabama. The committee has no easy task.

At the end of the day, no matter what the committee does, there are going to be a lot of angry fans, and I predict those angry fans will live in the states of Georgia and Texas.

This would have been a great year for an 8-team playoff:

-Michigan
-Washington
-Florida State
-Texas
-Alabama
-Georgia
-Ohio State
-Liberty

Do you pick the 4 best teams, or the 4 most deserving?

It is an incomplete team that will get shellacked in the playoff by whomever it plays. The job of the College Football Playoff committee is to select the four best teams. It is pretty clear that doesn’t include Florida State.

Actually, that is indeed a factor the committee is supposed to consider.

My counter to that:

Alabama - aside from losing by double digits to Texas, also only beat 4-8 Arkansas, 7-5 Texas A&M, and 6-6 LSU each by less than 1 TD. And against South Florida, they only put up 17 points (South Florida otherwise gives up an average of 37 points per game). So that's 5 arguably weak showings this year. Does one lone win over Georgia erase all that? Outside of their 3-point loss to Alabama, Georgia mostly destroyed its competition this year, including blowout wins over several ranked teams. In the debate over just Alabama and Georgia, I would still put Georgia in over Alabama.

If head-to-head and conference titles didn't matter and we were just purely looking at the 4 "best" teams RIGHT NOW (as in, teams that have the best chance of winning), then my rankings would be as follows:

1a - Washington
1b - Michigan
3 - Georgia
4 - Texas
-------------------
5 - Alabama
6 - Ohio State
7 - Oregon
8 - Florida State

In fairness to FSU though, they did go 2-0 even without their starting QB, including winning their conference title.

OR, if we really wanted to be "fair" we could just leave out Michigan entirely for cheating and instead put in Washington, Texas, Georgia, and Alabama. :lol

Now THIS is a sensible post!

Seeing a lot of movement towards Alabama futures to win it all. Does Vegas know something?

Well… it’s real money on the line and folks don’t make Willy nilly decisions with that usually…

I agree Alabama should be favored to win it all. I don't think the odds differential should be large, though.

So what am I missing that is so great about Alabama this year? I just don't see it. Yes, they beat Georgia. Great. And congrats to them for that win. But again - they were mediocre at best at least 5 times this year.

I just might have to put some money down this year on someone other than Alabama if the odds are that favorable.
