Vernon didn't deserve to be a first-ballot HOF'er, but he certainly did enough to justify eventual induction (385 regular season wins, another 77 playoff wins, 2 Cups including a Conn Smythe trophy). Congrats to him for finally getting in.
If anything, this will embolden those who argue that Chris Osgood belongs in the HOF as well. Ozzie's numbers meet or exceed Vernon in practically all categories (more regular season wins, more Cups (although only 2 of Ozzie's 3 Cup wins came with him as the primary goalie), better career save % and GAA, almost same number of playoff wins). If Vernon is setting the bar, Ozzie will eventually make it too.
