Who can blame 'em? Oakland is a shit hole, although I will say some of the surrounding suburbs are very nice.

They do not expect to play in Las Vegas until 2027.

2027 is too long. How about making it 2025?

I presume their Oakland Coliseum lease runs through the 2026 season.

The lease ends in 2024. They have their AAA affiliate in Vegas who have a fairly new ballpark. They can play there until construction is finished.

The A's have had to get a new stadium from the mid-90s or at least the early 2000s Oakland can't have nice things. The A's stadium is a dump the worst stadium in all of pro sports why can't they play where the Raiders play until the new stadium is built for the A's? The Raiders owner is mad that the A's are moving to Vegas.

Because it's not configured to accommodate baseball?

God damn it. I wanted to take a vacation to the bay area, visit the Golden Gate Bridge, swing by 924 Gilman St. and see an A's game (they've always been my #2 team). I can't believe Vegas is getting so much love, isn't it the country's biggest small town?

626,000 people… 2nd largest in the southwest… doesn’t sound small to me…

Depends on how one defines "southwest". Arizona and New Mexico are really the only 2 states universally agreed upon.
Nevada by some standards is west not south west.
Texas is by some standards southwest not south. Oklahoma is SW by some standards. So depending on how one defines Las Vegas isn't in the SW or it might be 5th or 6th largest city.

2.9 million people live in the Las Vegas metro area. Henderson, NV by itself accounts for 325,000.

The next largest Metro without an MLB team is San Antonio (2.55 million), although Austin 80 miles up I-35 holds another 2.2 million. It is surprising to me that the Spurs are the only major league franchise in that part of Texas. Houston is about a 3 hour drive to the east from San Antonio.

Neither was the L.A. Coliseum when the Dodgers moved there, but they made it work for a few years till Dodger Stadium was built. And plenty of other stadiums that were used for both sports.

The Dodgers at the LA coliseum was horrible. Nothing was right with the dimensions.

Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami was another not suited for baseball either. Most Marlins players preferred road games over 95-degree heat and no fans. The infield was a mess for Dolphin games, and it always rains in Florida.

Las Vegas will need a similar setup to Chase Field in Phoenix, with a retractable roof over a natural grass surface.
