Fielding Yost would be proud!

Michigan running back Donovan Edwards reportedly shared an incredibly anti-Semitic message Wednesday night.

All of a sudden Lefties have a problem with anti Semitism? From a college athlete?

Oy Vey.

Don't see too much concern about sitting members of Congress that feel that way.

Nets choose the proper way to deal with anti-semites.

Agreed. I would have suspended Edwards two games. And 2 games in football is worth more than 5 in basketball.

Wrong. The “lefties” in Congress want to limit foreign aid to Israel. That’s nothing racial. It’s a difference of geopolitical and fiscal strategy. CONS can’t seem to separate racism from geopolitical matters.

WTF is it with UM athletes and anti-semitism?

Maybe because this guy plays...er, played... in an arena named for one of the great Jew haters of all time?

Waiting for this to be covered by the News and freep.

So anti-Semitism is also just fine?

This was shitty to equate a stupid social media mistake to someone actively being anti-Semitic.

The hockey player (Druskinis) not only should be dismissed from the team (it's good to see that's already happened), he needs to be expelled from the school.

CBS Detroit on its website reported on his act of vandalism and hate speech but then later revised its story to remove any mention of the perp's identity and affiliation with the hockey team. Google search still shows the original headline and abstract, but when one clicks on the URL, the headline and story text have each been altered.

Did CBS Detroit kowtow to a request made by the U-M athletic department?

While the actions were abhorrent, it doesn't give CBS Detroit the right to overtly violate FERPA laws. There are processes for student dismissal, but the public has no right to student discipline records.

The media have zero obligation under FERPA laws.

Educational institutions cannot disclose such info in an unauthorized manner and must take prudent measures to protect such info. CBS Detroit is not an institution of higher learning.

Student disciplinary records aside, the media have every right to disclose the identity of the perpetrators of a crime. The fact an alleged criminal is a college student does not shield such (alleged) perpetrator from ID disclosure.

There was a traffic and firearm possession incident involving a football player late last year (Mazi Smith) that was very widely reported. His name was very broadly communicated in news reports.

When swastikas are placed on Jewish houses of worship or cultural centers, the media often cover the story extensively. Seems like the U-M athletic department is being given preferential treatment here.

It's not as black and white as you are making it out to be. The individual that was unethically named is just a regular student now and, unless I've missed it, no criminal charges have been filed. How were the identities discovered? Was it U-M cameras? Was it the result of a U-M DPSS investigation?

Actually, it is. There is surveillance video. It was even played on their newscasts late afternoon yesterday. The Ann Arbor PD investigated the incident and made the positive ID.

Search "Druskinis CBS Detroit" in Google and you'll see a screenshot of the video & chyron plus a URL for a page that is now dead.
