I am seeing multiple Facebook posts saying that Russ Gibb has passed away at 87.

I worked at WCAR AM1130 in 1977. He had a talk show at night as I remember it. I rarely saw him, but when I did, he acted like he was always in a hurry. The sort of mantic type, always moving about crazily looking for something. I think I greeted him once, and he just stared back at me. I was in sales, and he wasn't the type to even acknowledge a salesperson, unless it was management. I listened to his show, but I don't remember much about it. I think it mainly about Detroit politics, and what Coleman Young was up to at the time. I just remember he wasn't very friendly....a Star mentality. I think.

It's a shame he didn't make it to the 50th anniversary of the Paul is Dead controversy that he helped fuel.

Wonder if he every met Paul McCartney?

There was a gathering today (5/5) to celebrate Russ Gibb at the Grande Ballroom site, or, as "LOCAL4" just put it, twice,, the "GRAND" ballroom. Sheesh.

Vanity and Grande Ballrooms are in almost the same shape. Grande is on Grand River where Vanity is still standing on Jefferson near the Grosse Pointe border with Detroit.

I think they should have had the names of folks that were discussing Russ..... not to give them
Much screen time but I recognized JoJo by her voice.... and was nice to see Dick Purtan on the tv.

Not sure about any of the others or who they are.

Amazing what a little notoriety gets you.....

RIP “Uncle Russ”
