It's a national Entercom contest.
98.7 is owned by Entercom.
What part are you missing, lol ?

I’m not, the point is yes they have a lot of money, But it’s a National Contest and they don’t have to give the money to a local winner every hour, it can be 1 winner an hour Nationwide. That’s the problem with all radio station contest IHeart does the same thing, Once in a great while you may hear of a winner from the Detroit Area but it’s rare and I’ve heard of winners from other States on these contest on the Stations from here in Detroit.

I'm not talking about the actual contest though.
I'm just saying that they obviously have almost endless cash, and you said maybe they don't have the money to hire a morning show

Meaning they just don’t want to pay good money for good talent, The industry has changed in that aspect no more big names in radio today because the corporations don’t shell out the big cash, No more Million Dollar Multi Year contracts, That’s what I’m trying to say.

Yet they have no problem throwing out 12,000 dollars a day to bribe people to listen...
That's just lazy af.

This thread reminds me of that dreadful decision in 1983 to have Neil Shine of the Detroit Free Press drone on for a half hour about the next day's news in the middle of David Newman's afternoon talk show on WXYZ. A few months later, Newman was let go by WXYZ.

Your right Border, thats why I quit this business in ‘98, After deregulation in ‘96 the money started to get tighter in the business due to the fact the big corporations bought more real estate, And as time has slipped away to today The Entercom’s, IHeart’s and Beasley’s can’t pay the big bucks for good talent, All of these big radio corporations have become more greedier today, and look at IHeart radio are they out of the woods on their bankruptcy yet?I don’t think so only time will tell on that one.

Haven’t heard much about it, Don’t know. That’s weird just went to the Radio Insight website and there’s a story in reference to IHeart, The bankruptcy court just approved a restructuring plan, Check it out.

Entercom seems to suck, though Valenti hasn't slagged his bosses recently ,probably since he flubbed his New York audition and had to come crawling back to The Ticket .

Oh,crap,Oldies 84,you were in the radio biz????? I'll bet you wish you were old enough to have been on the airwaves (if indeed you were a DJ or reporter) in the 50's through 80's Golden Age . Did you meet Bob Allison, who's ninety or threreabouts and still on the radio ? How 'bout ninety-two-year-old Robin Seymour ?

I was in the Biz from ‘76-‘98 in Detroit, Chicago, Seattle and Eugene, Oregon and did not meet the names you have mentioned and I’m 63 not in my 80’s yet. And my screen name on here is in reference to the last station I was employed at in Eugene and that was in 1996 at KKNX Oldies 840.

Is that station still around btw? (I'm sure it's a different format by now though, classic hits?)
