In basketball making it to the final 4 is sort of a prize of it's own.
If Michigan got to the football "final 4" every year and every year an SEC team wins the title I don't see that as a Michigan failure.

Last weekend I watched a 10 year old grandson play in hockey tournament.
They got to the championship game and lost 6-1. I reminded him only two teams were left to play that game.

This isn’t junior hockey…

I also guarantee that Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State DO see a loss in the playoff as a failure. Why so many Michigan fans are content with achieving less is beyond me. We are a has been program and it appears to be ingrained in the culture now. We will literally be the only ones saying “gee at least we made the playoff!” Or the old standby “golly gee we beat Ohio State look at us!”… it’s frankly pathetic and I’m nearly certain other teams just point and laugh. It’s an embarrassing attitude.

Thanks for pointing out its not junior hockey. I thought for sure it was.
How many "has been" programs have gotten to the final 4 two years in a row? Is Michigan State a "has been" program? Ohio State has been in the final 4 5 times but only won the first time so 4 straight losses. Are they a has been? Oklahoma a has been?

Tell me who isn't a has been besides Georgia and Alabama?

Oklahoma is on a downward trajectory. Ohio State is consistently there. MSU had *A* good year and got there. What make us unique is that we think lesser achievements are A-Ok and if we don't win it all we do a shoulder shrug... That wasn't true with Carr so much... It was with Schembechler.

I'll put it this way... we pat ourselves on the back for getting in. A Georgia or an Alabama loses and they go single file off the nearest bridge. Nobody is doing the "golly gee we got in!" thing.

I've heard it suggested that one possible reason he hasn't signed a contract yet is the NCAA investigation hasn't been concluded with whatever punishment may come. The optics aren't good if Michigan gives him a big contract boost while waiting on the NCAA. Doesn't mean it's not been hammered out behind closed doors.

So if the sanctions are something horrible they ditch him? Cause otherwise he gets the boost either way. Unless it’s actually smaller and they can pretend it’s a punishment.

It's more like they are giving him a handsome new contract but will wait until after sanctions are brought so the contract won't have a negative impact on the determination of the sanctions. The assumption is after the punishment is determined the NCAA won't go back and reassess that punishment because they don't like the contract.

When are these sanctions supposed to be released?
