For a moment I was thinking, here we go again! Flaherty pitches shutout ball and we can't give him a single run. So glad he got the win. :D

Two shutout losses at home to one of the worst teams in baseball, following by two blowout wins on the road against one of the World Series teams from last year.

It's tempting to blame it on Comerica Park, but the opposition has to deal with the same elements as the Tigers. It's a shame, because the paying fans at Comerica Park deserve better.

Interestingly, in their batting splits, about the only thing they do better at home is hit home runs (https://www.espn.com/mlb/team/splits/_/name/det). They just scored 21 runs in two games without a home run.

Matt Manning has given up 9 hits in four innings. Tigers are down 4-1, top of 5.

Torkelson solo HR.

Detroit has a better road record overall.

They are 10-13 at Comerica Park.

Edit. Tigers lost 6-4. Tied 4-4 in the 7th, and could not hold on. Now on to Kansas City.

The bats are going, and I think KC will give them fits. However, after that they have Pittsburgh, Toronto, and Boston. I could see them getting on a roll if the bats stay active. I know Baez will slump again, but it's nice to see what this team COULD be.

The Royals are probably the best AL team right now. Before you laugh, look at the standings.

Hey, they are definitely overachieving. But they are not in the class of the Yankees or Orioles.

Their offense is a machine though. Yes, they have scrubs in the rotation, but their bullpen, defense, and hitting are all there.

Very good young team. Witt and Perez are studs. Would not surprise me all all if they won the Central. But they are not on the same plane as NYY or the birds.

Maybe it's time for the media to start questioning A.J. Hinch and Scott Harris.

Hinch is in his fourth year, and there has been no real progress since his first year. The Tigers are on pace to match Hinch's first year, when they were 77-85.

Harris was brought here to build on Avila's work, which wasn't perfect, but Avila did hire some people who Harris has kept (Hinch, Ryan Garko, Chris Fetter), and Avila did try to build up the team's analytics staff (https://www.mlb.com/news/tigers-make-mu ... promotions). Harris has failed two big tests—trading Edwin Rodriguez last year, and using Miguel Cabrera's old salary to sign a proven hitter for DH.

The starter can't do much without any offense.

The Tigers didn't get a hit until the sixth inning.

They were outscored 26 to 9 in Kansas City,

Currently 18-26 since starting 5-0. That puts them 9.5 games back in the AL Central.
