2018 Detroit Tigers

Post by TheForce » Fri Feb 23, 2018 11:20 pm

Had the spring training game on for a bit this afternoon on Fox Sports Detroit. They played the Yankees and they ended up losing, Tigers 1, Yankees 3. I was like who are these Tigers!?

A mixture of has-beens and AA/AAA quality players. They'll win 55 - 59 games this season. The thing is - that isn't much worse than last year's result!

Zimmermann shut down the mighty Yankees for five innings the other day with a strong command of four pitches. I'm just hoping we can at least get "our" money's worth out of him for the remainder of his contract, or trade him at mid-season. With Liriano now in the mix, there appears to be a surfeit of starting pitchers.

I will be thrilled if they lose fewer than 100 games.

I won't mind the losing as long as they look good doing it! :razz

Looks like more drives to Toledo to see the Mud Hens. At least they admit to being a minor league team.

Tomorrow is the Tigers home opener at 1:10pm. They will be playing the Pirates. I find it interesting they are starting off with interleague play right off, but I don't mind as I enjoy interleague play.

Looks like the home opener is postponed due to inclement weather and will take place tomorrow.

I love my Tigers, but after watching a dozen replays, I think Cervelli touched Castellano's back before he made home plate.
What sayeth you?

That could be true, but there's supposed to be some type of undisputable visual evidence that the original call was wrong for it to be overturned. I don't think there was enough evidence to change that call. Oh well, the first of probably 90-100 losses for the Tigers this year.

It looked to me like he JUST nicked his shirt, but I'm not sure I could definitively say that based on what I saw.

I'm becoming less and less of a fan of having New York make replay calls in professional sports.

Doubleheader today! I'm not expecting much from the Tigers this year. It is my understanding they have 10 new players on the roster this year. It's gonna take some time.

As did the posters above concerning "The Play" on Friday, I also thought Castellanos was out at the plate in real time and was pleasantly surprised at the safe call. However, I saw absolutely nothing definitive in the replays that could overturn the call, not unless the powers in New York had a super high resolution blow-up of the attempted tag.

Seeing at how shallow the outfield was playing, I was equally shocked that Castellanos was waved home at all! Oh well.

Looks like the Tigers have another double header today against the Yankees. All this inclement spring weather early on in the baseball season is crazy.

Interestingly the first game of today's double header has been postponed due to weather. Game 2 of the double header tonight is still on, at least for now. I'm not sure when this afternoons game will be made up. I read somewhere that this is the Yankees only trip to Detroit this season. Also this is the Tiger's fifth game this year to be postponed.

Double-header postponed till a mutual off-day in June. Meanwhile, all these warm weather teams are playing each other in April. DUMB!

Not sure what month you think it is but this is clearly not April...

We really are having some shitty luck weather wise and all the way though Friday we don’t even hit 50...

I was hearing June 4th the the makeup date. I can't ever remember having so many postponed games this early on in the season before. I feel bad for those who actually drove a long way down to Detroit just for something like this to happen.

My daughter had tickets to the game today. She was supposed to meet friends from Detroit at the game. I told her last night to save her gas money, because there was no way they'd be able to play baseball in Detroit today. She heeded my advice and will be going to the make up game in June
