On a thread talking about the passing of Crowbar (Canada) member Kelly Jay, someone brought up the American sludge metal band of the same name. They might be most famous for a couple of their videos being made fun of on Beavis and Butthead.

This Crowbar had to have been one of the heaviest (pun intended) bands out there in the early 1990s

I was a fan of that band as a high school geek in the mid-90s. At that time, i was searching for the absolute heaviest music i could find.
One of the guitarists either used bass strings or all high E strings to get that really heavy, deep sound.
