WWJ ID's

The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

WWJ ID's

Post by SolarMax » Thu Dec 13, 2018 10:49 am

WWJ is now doing its TOH legal ID as "WWJ, and WXYT HD2 Detroit," not "WWJ and WWJ HD, Detroit." This would imply (to me) that there's no more AM IBOC, since it’s not ID'd, but no, the hash-o-matic is still there, corrupting the adjacent frequencies.

Is it legally required to say WWJ HD?

I believe so, since it’s technically a separate station. Have heard AM's ID-ing it that way since it’s beginning.
WBBM Chicago IDs as “WBBM, WBBM HD and WCFS HD2”

It's actually WCFS-FM Elmwood Park, I believe.

I can confirm WWJ's I-BLOC exciter most definitely is turned on & generating plenty of sideband hash.

I suspect the FCC no longer requires stations to separately identify on-frequency (technically, adjacent frequency) HD stations anymore.

I thought WWJ was simulcasted on WDZH HD 2?
(Don’t own an HD receiver)

Close. They're on WXYT's HD-2. At last check, WDZH still has smooth jazz on HD-2, and some kind of trance/dance station called Area on HD-3.

I remember when Elmwood Park had WXFM. the studios and tower were right on Harlem ave, behind a company that sold aluminum siding and windows !@! I spent a few idle hours sitting with the classical music host and chatting about radio, music, philosophy, and life ! 1964.

You can hear their TOH ID here, from my 5 1/2 hour TOH ID compilation. They run their ID at :56 each hour with a second non-legal ID at :58.
