Ashville NC replaces progressive talk with progressive sports talk

Hey, some of us like to talk about happenings in other areas of the country, too. Here's the place to do it.

Ashville NC replaces progressive talk with progressive sports talk

Post by 80sTalkRadioFan » Mon Jun 04, 2018 11:05 am

While listening to WPEK-AM "880 The Revolution) this morning I heard a promo saying that ESPN Radio is coming to that station Monday June 11. As a fan of progressive talk, as well as a few of ESPN Radio's programs, this seems like a good change that hopefully won't upset too many progressive talk fans. This station had dropped their local progressive afternoon drive host (Jeff Messer) years ago, and there are only 3 national weekday hosts doing progressive political talk: Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann and Norman Goldman. Not sure if WPEK will hire any local sports talkers.

Bleh....

ESPN Radio is so BORING. The play-by-play is great. I've got no use for its talk hosts, though.

The hideous electronic billboards in each end zone make Spartan Stadium look like a corny Arena Football League venue!

Ashville isn't really a left wing place, so interesting a station had that format there. Not a big Sports guy but agree, ESPN is awful. Fox Sports radio is much better.

I-Heart Media, I ask you to please bring back 106.7 The D, but without Journey,Eddie money, or Styx. ALT 106.7 sucks ass!

I hear that Asheville is actually very liberal. Sort of a hippie/hipster hotbed.

Yes, I've also heard that Ashville is more liberal/progressive than most of the Carolinas. Progressive talk has been on that station for at least 10 years.

Thanks for the info. I heard the switchover at midnight on the new "ESPN Ashville." Sounds like they hired a local mid-day host to talk ACC football and hoops. They also have Paul Finebaum's SEC show for afternoon drive.

Ashville's a great town, NC politically these days is sort of like Ohio. You have had a lot of people move down from Maryland and New England.

In other news, progressive talk returns to San Francisco. On 910am

That "local" midday host is actually a statewide host in NC.

Not true. They voted for Obama (by a razor thin margin) the first time around, and have a Democratic governor. Asheville is known for being progressive, and the tech triangle has a large, liberal college population.
You might be thinking of South Carolina. NC is as swing as a state gets.
