Could this be the end of the road for WBAI in NYC?

WBAI has been on life support forever, if your not familiar with Pacifica its alt-left wing programing. When WBAI does go on the market I suspect Cumulus would probably make a bid for it.

Edit: Since there's no sale of WBAI immediately pending, expect the Pacifica looneys to continue to labor to keep WBAI in their hands, even if they end up broadcasting from a telephone pole in Manhattan with 100 watts.
They just can't picture the world being able to exist without their exalted programming.

No doubt Ariel would soon become an "Enemy of 'BAI" following Pacifica's tinkering.

Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!

I suspect it will go to a non-profit.

Like Family Radio, perhaps? They sold off WFME-FM 94.7 to -- who else -- Cumulus, shortly after Harold Camping's end of the world stunt, and more recently, got back into the market by buying an AM blowtorch, WQEW.TheGeekJedi wrote:Cumulus has no money.1027BrianFM wrote:When WBAI does go on the market I suspect Cumulus would probably make a bid for it.

And then WQXR-FM can full powered again at 99.5 in New York.1027BrianFM wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2017 12:22 amWith No money, Dwindling audience. Got a feeling WBAI could go on the block. https://radioinsight.com/headlines/1162 ... paid-rent/

That would be interesting. It could be a bidding war for WBAI if it were to be sold.

Pacifica, and especially WBAI, are the cockroaches of radio. Nuclear war could wipe out life as we know it and WBAI would still find a way to stay on the air.

In an audio clip on WBAI’s page, General Manager Berthold Reimers made the argument that WBAI or any station should not have to pay any money for a tower lease because it is a publicly licensed operation.

Some people like satellites. I prefer the ionosphere.

I just heard an interview with Pacifica's treasurer. Don't count out WBAI quite yet.

Some wealthy Bolshevik such as George Soros will cough up the money, I bet, to allow them to stay on the air.
Memo to 106.7: Twenty-One Pilots, Imagine Dragons, FUN and Fall Out Boy all S-U-C-K!!! Stop playing those shitty (boy) bands, and maybe you'll end your streak of piss poor ratings!

They are being mentioned again. I bet Cumulus would like nothing more than to get a hold of 99.5 FM. They could move WNBM over to it from 103.9 FM.

Re: Could this be the end of the road for WBAI in NYC?
Well... I think there going to have to do what family radio did, sell 99.5 and find an AM station. If that were to happen, expect a bidding war for 99.5. I don't think the cloud has the moola for WBAI, unless they spin some smaller market stations off.

Going down the tubes... https://radioinsight.com/headlines/1223 ... t-seizure/
My guess is... Pacifica sells WBAI or even KPFA 94.1 even. Selling WBAI alone would probably take care of there money problems. Still... there on thin ice.
