The search function on the board no longer works as well as it used to. Before, we could type in the name of an old thread, or even part of the name and it would go to it. It doesn't work any more.

I just tested it out and experienced no discernible issues.

Click the cog-looking icon to the right of the magnifying glass if you wish to conduct an advanced search.

I noticed the same thing. It returns next to nothing.

When I tried it - I received numerous results. (In my case, I searched "WIOT" and "WXYZ".)

Remember, about 60 days ago, I purged all threads older than a couple years. Naturally, you're not going to receive nearly as many results as if you had run a search on a similar topic six months ago.

If the results list is lengthy, you will need to click on the page numbers in the lower right corner of the results screen to toggle between pages.

There is more to the issue than that...

If you search WJR you only get 20 results. The OLDEST post it returns is Feb 4, 2017!

No results for 2016 and 2015.

I did accidentally purge the search index on the old version of the site a few weeks prior to installing the upgrade. This might have something to do with it.

I am trying to create a new search index from scratch (without deleting the existing one) right now. Will probably take a few hours to complete. Will let guys know how well it goes! Thanks for your patience.

I randomly selected a thread from page 4 of the Political Board, "Trump Wins." Less than five months old. I searched and got the following.
Search found 0 matches: Trump Wins

I changed the search back-end to MySQL full text.

The good news? Search results go all the way back to 2014!!! :)
The bad news? At minimum, your search criteria must contain four characters. If you use 3 or fewer characters (e.g. "WJR"), you'll get nothing back.

In the days ahead, I will work with my host to modify the MySQL configuration so that searches with as few as three characters function properly.
Thanks for your patience as I work through this.

Scratch the above post.

I tried recreating the phpBB full text index and had very good results. So, I switched back to that methodology.

A search for "WJR" returned 788 posts!!!

Give it a try, gentlemen, and let me know how well (or not) it works please. Thanks!
