A Mechanical Question

Post by Turkeytop » Thu Jul 20, 2023 3:08 pm

I got a new self propelled, push type lawn mower. But it goes so fast I almost have to run to keep up to it. How can I slow it down? The engine has no throttle control.

I called the toll free number on the manuel but after 45 minutes on hold I gave up.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

You don't have any speed control by using the bail control bar as a throttle?

On mine, a Cub Cadet, I can let go of the bail control part way and it will slow down.
They advertise that it will know how fast I'm walking, and adjust it's speed, but that never seemed to work, at least not for me.

It's still a little bit of a pain, 'cuz of having to hold the bar part way under tension.
Hands and wrist start getting sore before I get the front done.

My back is more wide open and easier to handle at full throttle.

Life is not a dress rehearsal. This is it. There's no going back, and we can only go forward before we run out of runway.

There's an app for that.

I'm sure the engine has a throttle control, but it's governed to run at a set RPM. Usually you can change that RPM point by bending a tab that holds a spring. If you posted a couple pictures of the carburetor it might be easy to identify.

0.00025% chance that man ever uses an app.

If you make a bet giving those odds, you'll lose. I'll never use a ap. I don't have a device for a ap and don't plan to ever have one.

There has to be some situation somewhere where it’s “give me an app or I’m toast!”…

On my Husqvarna, there's a tension adjuster that, when tightened, speeds up the self-propulsion. Conversely, loosening tension slows the speed down.

The closest that situation has ever come was during the pandemic. The Canada Border Services weren't allowing anyone to cross the Canada-US border without a ap. Fortunately they rescinded that rule in time for us to go to Florida.
