Woman attacked ex with broken chair after argument over cat, according to Pensacola police

A 39-year-old woman is in jail after allegedly beating her ex-boyfriend over the head with pieces of a broken wooden chair following an argument about their cat.

Pensacola police arrested Christy Smith around 11 p.m. Sunday on domestic battery and criminal mischief charges.

When questioned by the arresting officer, Smith said she came to her ex's house in the 4400 block of Yarmouth Place in Ferry Pass because she had argued with him about their cat in text messages and she just wanted to talk in person.

Smith's arrest report states that around 10:45 p.m., she beat on the back door of her ex's house with a wooden chair until it broke. Later, when the man tried to restrain Smith, she allegedly hit him in the head "approximately six times" with pieces of wood from a broken chair.

Smith was arrested when she tried to run into a shed after she noticed law enforcement approach her in the backyard, according to the report.

The ex told police Smith texted him earlier in the day Sunday to argue about the cat they previously had together.

The man said he told Smith not to come over, but she stated she was coming to his house anyway.

He told police that Smith threatened to fight his wife when Smith arrived and banged on the front door. Smith entered the backyard and allegedly started banging on the back door with the chair until it broke, according to the ex, who told police he feared Smith would break the glass so he tried to restrain her.

The arrest report states the man's wife called police from the couple's bedroom as her husband tried to restrain Smith.

The wife told police that after she made the call, she began to record the altercation. Her footage shows Smith grabbing and pulling both of her ex's ears as she attempted to push her way back to the door, the report said.

As Smith was being placed into a patrol car, the arresting officer said she told him that she may have hit her ex, but later on that night, she claimed she didn't remember.

The ex valued the amount of property damage to be about $220, according to the report.

Smith was still in Escambia County Jail as of Tuesday afternoon without bond.

She thought she could pull it off, but it's far from the purr-fect crime.

By the end of the meeting, the chair didn't have a leg to stand on.
