DESTIN — A local beekeeper is mourning the loss of some of his bees after vandals overturned eight hives on a vacant lot near Big Kahunas.
“I hope they got stung,” said Jeff Chesser, as he surveyed the damage Thursday.
“They used to be calm bees,” he added. “They’re not calm anymore.”
He said based on footprints, cigarette butts and a drink can, he guesses the culprits overturned his hives on Wednesday evening, right after it stopped raining.
The ground was littered with dead bees when he came to the lot early Thursday morning, after getting a call from someone at Big Kahunas who noticed the destruction.
