-----Interesting that this happens so much on the southern side of the Rio Grande and not the other side where El Paso, Texas is at. And guns are illegal in Mexico. Obviously gun control in Mexico has proven to be a terrible and complete failure. And in Texas, it's even legal to shot and kill someone to protect your property. But which side has an orgy of gun crime???

Something to ponder I think......

You know what I'm going to say already....

Make guns illegal and only criminals will have guns!!! This is obvious proof.

Look at the reduction of violent crime rates in areas that have CCW permits or even OPEN CARRY laws.

Yep. There's nothing like CCW to keep things peaceful.

Speight gun permit: I am not quick to anger and find ways to get out of problems without force or violence

When Christopher Bryan Speight sought a concealed weapons permit 15 years ago, he stated that he was "not quick to anger," and found "ways to get out of problems without force or violence."

That letter, dated Feb. 2, 1995, was written as then 24-year-old Speight applied for a concealed weapons permit in Appomattox County.

Now 15 years later, Speight faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of his sister, Lauralee Sipe.

Last week, Sipe was among eight victims who were found dead at Speight's residence on Snapps Mill Road.

Law enforcement officials found multiple guns, including high-powered rifles and ammunition, at his residence on Snapps Mill Road.

In Speight's letter, Speight described himself as a responsible person.

"I am a dependable, hardworking person, not quick to anger, and find ways to get out of problems without force or violence," Speight wrote. "In situations operating equipment or handling dangerous materials I put the safety of others first. For many years my hobby has been firearms, and I take seriously the responsibility of handling them."

When renewing his concealed weapons permit in January 2009, Speight marked "no" when asked on the application the following question: "Have you received mental health treatment or substance abuse treatment in a residential setting within the five years prior to the date of this application?"

Speight needed a concealed weapons permit for his job as a security guard.

His most recent employment was doing contracted security work for Roanoke-based Old Dominion Security.
In a 1995 reference letter by Roland Parris Jr. included with Speight's concealed weapon application, Parris detailed his dealings with Speight.

Parris, who was a National Rifle Association instructor, stated that Speight did well while training to fire a high power rifle.

Parris also stated in a letter that he instructed Speight on hand-gun safety

"Chris has helped do general farm work for me from time to time. He is prompt, trustworthy and responsible. He has a cheerful will to work. Chris attends his church regularly and I find him to be an upstanding Christian young man," Parris concluded in the letter.

A Norfolk native, Speight began dealing with guns at an early age. When he was 14, Speight successfully completed a hunter's safety course he took while residing in Ohio.

About seven years later, Speight successfully completed NRA courses in firearms safety and marksmanship.

Following the period of Speight's early success with firearms safety people who knew him described him as polite.

A manager of Charley's restaurant in Lynchburg knew Speight in the early 1990s when he was in his early 20s.

When remembering Speight working at Charley's as a bar stocker and busboy, M.J. Pearson said that he was a "very hard working young man" and that he was polite back then.

With no indication of problems in the past, Pearson noted that he must have had problems in his recent history.

"I do not know what happened to him," she said of the news of his involvement in last month's shooting rampage.

In recent years, acquaintance of Speight described him as a gun enthusiast stating that he would target shoot at a range on his 34-acre property.

On Jan. 20 law enforcement officials saw the evidence that Speight was a gun enthusiast as they recovered numerous guns at his residence once Speight turned himself after an 18-hour manhunt.

What led to the manhunt was events that occurred on Jan. 19.

On Jan. 19, police officers were called to the scene after a 911 call was made that there was a wounded man laying in the road.

When police got to the scene, more shots were fired and there was a subsequent manhunt to find Speight, who had been hiding in neighboring woods at his residence.

Speight surrendered to police at around 7:10 a.m. on Wednesday after an18-hour manhunt after he was suspected of shooting eight people at his residence.

The victims were 43-year-old Karen and Jonathan Quarles, 38 year old Dwayne and Lauralee

Speight Sipe; 4-year-old Joshua Sipe, 15-year old Morgan Dobyns, 16-year-old Ronald Scruggs and 15-year-old Emily Quarles.

Speight has been since charged with first-degree murder of his sister Lauralee and more charges are pending.

Hate to tell you this, Dex but, the fact that that guy was a gun enthusiast has absolutely nothing to do with him killing those people. That was only the tool he used to do it with. If he had not had guns in his house, he most likely would've killed those people anyway but, used an axe or knife or hammer. The guns didn't make him kill. The guns didn't speak to him and tell him to kill those people. He did that all on his own.

There's the theory that it's much easier to kill with a gun than otherwise; the thinking being that to kill with an axe or knife, one has to actually approach the individual and perhaps deal multiple stabs or blows. I suppose the theory follows the same lines as spewing venom anonymously on the internet versus facing the subject of one's wrath.

You're being unfair to Barney, Ed, Revox and Soupy. They can't confront me face to face. I'm just as anonymous as they are.

I was merely illustrating the "killing-is-easier-with-a-gun" theory as being similar to anonymous posters taking potshots at real people; i.e., it's easier to aim and pull a trigger from a distance than to go up to someone and stab or clobber them multiple times. This theory has been promulgated by the gun control crowd for decades.

Dexter,

There is only one answer to this question. Either A or B.

You're in a shopping mall, maybe a parking garage. Some asshole has a gun and decides to go either apeshit on everyone or apeshit on you and your lovely wife. A CCW holder, maybe someone like me is there too.

Do you ask me to A, call 911 and hope help arrives in time, or B, drop the SOB who is more than likely going to kill you?

WHich is it?

Revox,
There is only one answer to this question. Either A or B.
Your in a shopping mall when you see some asshole with a gun about to shoot Dexter and his wife. You pull out your gun to drop the SOB. Two shots later a 16 year old girl walking past the SOB is dead when one of your bullets went wide, and the SOB is critically wounded. The trouble is the "SOB" is actually Dexter's pal from work and the "gun" was actually his smart phone from which he was about to show Dexter some pictures of his grandchildren. The critically wounded "SOB" dies on the way to the hospital
Do you:
A. plead guilty to 2nd degree murder?
B. hire a slick lawyer and try to weasel out a probation on an involuntary manslaughter plea?
Just a reminder...There is only one answer to this question. Either A or B.

and while I'm asking, have you stopped beating your dog yet?
A) yes
B) no
WHich is it?

I wasn't bashing you because you're gay. I didn't even know. Never would have guessed. All of my gay friends are nice people.
