Could the radio DJ be gone someday?

Post by Jeff Dugan » Wed Jul 17, 2019 6:34 pm

With more people tuned to other music platforms and internet radio on the rise could radio be rid of the DJ, Lately I have noticed the more I listen to Spotify and Pandora my music info is on my dashboard and as far as traditional radio most stations don’t have a DJ after a certain time in the evening until the next morning, how long before Alexa will tell us what she’s playing next, only time will tell before we hear the Alexa and Siri morning show.

I went with a few Alexa’s and Siri’s back in the 70’s, If I remember correctly they were blonds.

Personally I think radio has zero personality now, so it wouldn’t effect my listening habits especially with more music platforms at my fingertips today, Just this morning I was listening to Classic Rock 1964-1971 from AccuRadio and it was enjoyable to not hear repeats every 3 hours, The Classic Rock 1964-1971 is an excellent channel by the way and so is Classic Rock 1972- 1976, Great stuff.

Mojo would have do actual physical labor maybe a sanitation engineer and Towers would have to get a job in a Burger King where he can eat the profits.

The real radio djs...and personality radio...left in the late 70s/early 80s. Nobody today like JP McCarthy, Lee Alan, Tom Clay, Marc Avery or Dick Purtan, et al.
Yes, the good days of personalities and great music programming radio are truly gone thanks to the big corporations, they have destroyed the art of good creative radio.

If that were true these people would be talented, and radio today has zero talent, so bye-bye DJ or “air talent”

It’s funny just today the wife and I seen a sign on a Burger King lawn Up to $16.00 an hour, thats more than most radio people get today with all the corporation consolidation that’s happened to the broadcast industry.
