Schoolhouse Rock (3 6 9 12 15 18 21 24 27 30)

Does anyone out there have a favorite Schoolhouse Rock song / video? Mine would definitely be Three Is A Magic Number. The melody of that song is amazing. I'm not sure if was the first one they made, but it was the first one ABC aired in 1973.

When the people who made Schoolhouse Rock pitched it to ABC an executive brought Chuck Jones to the meeting. After it was done mr Jones basically said "put in on."

"Three is a Magic Number" is probably mine... especially since indie rock band Blind Melon did a cover of it back in the early 1990s... lead singer Shannon Hoon really made that song his own. :P

The best series is Multiplication. I could never really get into the later songs about science, money, and ecology, (though Interplanet Janet and Electricity aren't so bad.)

Sometime in the 80's they made a four part series on computers. However, it is more or less of out of circulation because of how fast it became dated.

They did remember to include a couple of those segments when a DVD release of all the shorts came out a decade back, though one apparently was lost at the time. This is that film...

Another really good Schoolhouse Rock song is Little Twelve Toes. It sort of reminds me of The Grateful Dead's Dark Star.

It's quite a thoughtful tune that puts things into perspective

It's weird though for me to listen to "I Got Six" and not think of how positive they made polygamy sound like!

I know I mentioned this on the Music Board but Schoolhouse Rock Composer Bob Dorough has died at the age of 94.

Still it's nice to spread the word around as much as possible.

The song "2 4 6 8" was done by the Jackson 5ive back in 1970 which does not count on the TV show!! Moby did a great remake of "Little Twelvetoes" back in 1996 "Tribute To Schoolhouse Rock"!! Blind Melon "Three Is A Magic Number" was the last song that lead singer Shannon Hoon did because he took his own life in late 1995. Finally, Bob Dorough also did helped Nellie McKay's "Normal As Blueberry Pie: Tribute To Doris Day" a few years back.

Even though Bob didn't write that one. He was the sold composer/lyricist of the first series, "Multiplication Rock" and stayed on to write others in the following years.

Essara Mohawk, who sang Suffering Til Sufferage and Interjections, Almost replaced Grace Slick in Jefferson Starship when she left in 1978, (she came back three years later.) Instead they went with Mickey Thomas.
