August 2017 Tropos

Post by mtburb » Tue Aug 01, 2017 8:22 am

And perfect timing to start this thread to boot...as of just seconds ago, the usual Flint combo of WNEM/WEYI/WCMZ/WSMH was blasting in very well. WCMZ is still coming in good while WEYI and WNEM are barely showing up with pictures now.

And yes the usual WEWS was blasting in too.
For three days in January 2017 (15th, 16th, 19th) and one night in September 2017 (22nd), I managed to receive KDKA Pittsburgh from 202 miles away indoors!

WCMZ has been coming in a few times today and WEYI showed up again this morning....then a thunderstorm came and I finally managed to receive (albeit often breaking-up) picture signals from W33BY!

Tonight got audible audio from CKCO again and got the two main suspects from Cleveland again.

Some Michigan tropo from over the weekend, all on Sunday morning and early afternoon, the Civic Long Weekend holiday in Canada:

92.3 WPWX heard strong from the beach all the way inland up to Evart - 75 miles inland - before The Dock (CJOS) finally took it out. (194 mi.)

95.1 WIIL (usual local 20 miles inland) continued onward quite strong to 5 miles east of Evart before CKUE took it out. It would later be heard in East Tawas on the beach at Lake Huron as well. (167 mi.)

102.7 WRVM in with RDS west of Clare. (197 mi.)

105.7 WAPL in strong in Clare bashing it out with CJMI. (164 mi.)

106.9 WOOD cutting clear across the entire state on the east side and far north side, though I have seen plenty of times that this is normal. 107.9 Muskegon as well, though as it's not mono, it wasn't as well received. 106.9 was also heard on Lake Huron.

This was all prior to my bandscans on my 559-mile loop drive I took on Sunday to fill in 10 unvisited counties that had been bugging me, take 3 beach-side FM scans, and well, see things. That, later. When I finish, bandscans from East Tawas, Alpena, and Harbor View, mostly with Toronto, London, Barrie, North Bay, Sudbury, and Detroit signals, among some from Green Bay, Milwaukee, and the UP (yes, on the beaches of Lake Huron).

WEYI was coming on pretty good earlier this morning and right now CKCO is coming in...with very, very clear color pictures behind the snow!

Again, the usual TV tropo suspects. However, I did manage to bring in good signals on WRIF and WOMC on I-75 northbound just north of the Ohio border.

Had WIOT holding in good with plenty of static in Dearborn/Lincoln Park today.

And I'm back on track with WNEM clearly coming in, in fact, it's the only TV tropo I'm experiencing right now.

Actually, right after I posted this WLNS and WTOL boomed in too.
