Turkeytop- Any government trunking systems in your area that could end-up on the tower??
I don't know anything about that stuff. It's away over my head.

Good one Audiophile...actually you should have had a B&W photo of a Bell/AT&T switching center with a sheetload of stepper relays and their "Trunked Lines" hence the corresponding titles.

Ladder THING, not really a ladder, cable support framework would be more accurate but most of the folks here may not be communication oriented, more entertainment radio oriented :D

Today my curiosity got the better of me. I was passing by, so I decided to drop in and ask. The lady at the desk said it isn't their tower. It belongs to Sigma Wireless. Never heard of them.. She said they erected the tower almost a year ago, but no one has ever come back to complete the job.

Turkeytop, somewhere in your last post there's a joke buried in there about the tower erection and finishing the job...

I wonder if the people you talked to are getting a monthly payment from Sigma. According to the Sigma Wireless website I stumbled upon, they have no presence in North America.

That's so bizarre. Why would they do that?

Maybe they built it strictly to 'get radio-geeks tongues to waggin'?

I assumed they meant Sigma Technologies.

A quick scan of Sigma Technologies webpage makes me wonder if they just put up towers as a subcontractor for someone else ?????

Just got back from Florida two weeks ago. Looks like they were busy while I was away. After nearly two years, they finally got some hardware up there.

Since you started this thread, I didn't think that tower was designed for a wind load. That angle iron looks too thin. I'm mildly surprised the tower is loaded as much as you show. Now I'm no engineer, so it probably is just fine.

You may be no engineer, but you know a lot more about it than I do.

A wind storm here last week destroyed my antenna.

The mystery as to why they would erect a tower and leave it empty for two years, is now solved. My daughter in law works for a company that builds towers.

She says that to put up a communications tower, involves a lot of red tape and approvals from CRTC. But to install antennas on an existing structure involves a minimum of regulation or approvals. So they put up a do nothing tower, requiring nothing more than a building permit from the city. Two years later, they apply for approval to mount antennas on a tower that just happens to be there already.

Approved.
