I had that happen to me once at a station some years back. I applied for one position there by answering an ad, was hired for a different position that hadn’t been posted yet, and got a rejection letter from the station I was already working at for that first job. They had likely posted their ad after hiring someone. (I don’t know if they appreciated my putting the letter up on my office wall, but I wasn’t told to take it down.)
However, the next P.D. (or someone) didn’t find my “joie de vivre” very inspiring, apparently. It wasn’t related to the letter, though. C’est la vie. I just checked, and that individual is still at a station in Michigan. I should drop them a line sometime.
