Subaru SXM Radio

Post by ByteMe » Mon Nov 27, 2017 11:01 am

My wife drives a 2017 Subaru Outback. Nice car, but the SXM radio is annoying. Anytime the radio is left on an eXplicit Language (XL) station, the next time the car is started the radio automatically retunes to SXM's promo channel, as if the radio is not activated. It's some kind of nanny mode. She listens to Turbo and Howard 100 frequently, so it's not uncommon to start up the car and hear the Hits 1 promo loop. Does anybody know of a way to disable this? We can't find a way to disable this function. She complained to Subaru and to the dealership. The only response has been, "some people like the feature." I realize that returning to a regular channel is one tap of the touchscreen away, but you can't change stations while the car is in reverse, and that's usually when she notices that the annoying SXM promo channel is playing.

I don't listen to any of those garbage channels. But once in a while my GM radio defaults to the promo channel too.

The people at the dealership are almost always clueless when it comes to OEM technology issues.

My suggestion would be to contact Sirius XM customer support - ideally during daytime or early evening hours on a weekday so you wind up with a customer support specialist who is based in the U.S. as opposed to someone overseas.

It's interesting that XM radios still provide the "xL" tag, even many years after completion of the merger. Sirius units - at least those that come as OEM equipment on Ford vehicles - have never provided such an advisory.

My fear, ByteMe, is that your Subaru unit is functioning as intended.
C'mon iHeartRadio - do the RIGHT thing for once! Please cancel "Rover's Morning Glory" from WBFX in Grand Rapids.

Newer fords with the backup camera close out the radio also.

I drive a Chevy Equinox. When in reverse, the radio continues to play, but the controls are inaccessible. I suppose they want the drivers full attention to be on the driving.

My Mom has a Nissan Rouge and when you are in reverse, you cant do anything with the radio. Ditto for someone I know, who has a VW Passat. I've never had a Subaru but there pretty awesome cars from what I hear. Anyway, that's weird it goes back to the default channel.
