Channel 7 must have bills to pay

Post by Deleted User 7620 » Fri Mar 29, 2019 7:11 pm

From 8-9 pm tonight, WXYZ is preempting ABC network programming for the WXYZ Ultimate Wedding Show. Another meaningless program just so the station can keep all the advertising dollars for a whole hour.

Very typical!

So!, ABC Network programming sucks anyway, If I had the opportunity to air something other than ABC I would. They should go Independent.

7 isn’t strong enough of a station to go Indy. Their news talent sucks and their demos are even behind Fox 2 in some time slots.

WDIV would make more sense for a move like that

The wedding show is a beautiful thing. It's cheap to produce and everything in it paid to be there, throw in as many spots as you can sell and you have a nice money maker.

It’s also been going for at least 10 years... is Erin Nicole still returning from the great talent beyond to do the show?

Good time slot for channel 7 to air that. Its counterprogramming to the NCAA tournament on CBS and its out of a sweeps book. Its also a great time to air in the thick of wedding planning for June brides.

These shows are for the "bride-zillas" of 2020 and beyond.
Any June bride for this year would have had that planning stuff already locked down for at least a year or two.

No it wouldn't. By this time next year all that stuff is last season.
You book the hall and the church a year in advance. All the othet stuff you have to save up for months to pay for to get a few months before the wedding.
These business want to get their foot traffic started before wedding season.
These things also build advertising for ideas for prom season too.

I think somebody at 7 has had more access to market research then you.

Well, there are an increasing number of "groom-zillas " (not counting former Tigers reliever Buddy Groom) so how 'bout a show featuring these disgusting dudes ?

I could already tell that this was going to happen, make-goods for all those local advertisers who got preempted by tornado warning coverage earlier this month.

My furthest DTV tropo: KDKA Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 202 miles for three days in January 2017 and a night in September 2017 with only an Antennas Direct C2V!

Current setup: Antennas Direct C2Max (2018-present)

That's a good hypothesis, mtburb. You might be onto something.

Many years ago, I worked at a small radio station, and we hosted a wedding show. We sold advertising, spaces at the hall, and made a lot of money. It was a hit. And, the station received a lot of free publicity.

The show is planned out and content is sold months in advanced as well as taking a couple weeks to shoot and edit. But the "commercial" breaks are a great place for make-goods. The money made is from the vendors showcased as content, they pay for the effort. It must work for both WXYZ and the vendors, 7 has been doing the show for years.
