What is it? It's....

Post by Playswithtrucks » Mon Nov 21, 2016 6:01 pm

When did "it is" or the contraction "it's" become the standard when referring to your name, the artist/singer, a station element and even the call letters/slogan? It's getting more and more commonplace, and sounds as if the announcer doesn't have anything else to say, or doesn't have a way out of what they were saying and just says ".. It's the (station)." and ends the talk set/bit.

This morning I heard this on one station: "It's Joe Discjockey.." referring to himself.
"it's the weather.." introducing the weather.
"right now it's 28.." (I'd say this was the most appropriate use of "it's").
".. it's the (station name) ending his talk-set into a song.

Over the weekend on a different station I heard "It's John Discjockey and it's (artist) -pause- it's (the station)."

I started to count, and in a little over an hour, I heard one announcer use "it's" when referring to himself and the station and the artist 6 times.

It's Tim
It's my post. It's over.

We all have our pet peeves.

Mine is the mispronunciation of words. One that really irks me is when someone on the radio says jewlery instead of jewelry.

Another one I hear on our local radio stations is the mispronunciation of street names. We have a street here called Westminster Drive. So often, on the radio, I hear it called West Minister Drive.

"There was a Jewlery Store robbery on West Minister Drive." :x

One of my favorite shows would have a character go through all kinds of mishaps, get all beat up and then look at the camera and say "It's"...... Does anyone remember this, show?

Anyways. Why not say "i'm Doug d j". This is 94.7 Where the N Word Girls Daddy Works... Currently, we're freezing our butts off... 20 degrees.

A currently airing Black Friday TV spot for JC Penney speaks of jewlery on sale. Aughh.
And, you can sell your home with the help of a Realator.

"The It's Man" opened the first season of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" in 1969. John Cleese's "And now for something completely different" intro was introduced the following season, with The It's Man reduced to just saying "It's..." before the credit starts.

People who say "less" when the correct term is "fewer".

We can help you pay less taxes....

Less commercials means more music....

"Fewer" refers to a quantity. "Less" refers to an amount. Proper context would be:

I put less milk on my cereal this morning.

I had fewer dollars in my wallet after I bought more milk for my cereal.

Turkey,
You would enjoy radio & TV commercials for a local jewelry store in the Washington, D.C. area called the Jewelry Exchange.
The announcer calls it the Jewry Exchange.

Bruce B Downs was a highly revered politician in Tampa FL. After his death they named a street after him, Bruce B Downs BLVD. It's a busy thoroughfare so the name comes up frequently in the traffic reports. Every announcer on every station pronounces it like the Bruce and the B are all one word. It comes out sounding like Brucebie Downs.

It's 20 degrees on the outside....

I hope it's not 20 degrees on the inside! I'd have an issue with that.

Or as the McKenzie brothers would conclude, a six-pack = 32 metric beers! :razz

(double it & add 30)
