Bruce Williams Dies...

He's been away from radio for near six years, the former NBC Talknet financial-advice host died Saturday, just short of his 87th birthday. Williams' popularity was at its peak in the late 80s and 90s, Bruce's subject matter was never my cup of tea. One thing's for sure, he was never a flame-throwing...

Re: 97.3 Grand Rapids shut down

Point taken on the actual WDEE "down time." I will leave it to you to define whether the adjustments have been completed, or if the signal contour has been changed. I am finding a less friendly arrival of their sound as I commute in from Comstock Park/Belmont. The grainy sound used to make it to Ced...

Re: 97.3 Grand Rapids shut down

I punched up and received the WDEE signal this morning at the 131 Sand Lake exit, while on my way to Big Rapids. They were previously able to hold off 97.3 in Grand Rapids till I reached the Cedar Rock area in my southbound travels. We'll see what the drive home brings in terms of reception. I have ...

Yep, I know about him.

Many things.

Re: 97.3 Grand Rapids shut down

It's a big day for that frequency in the region, as WDEE in Big Rapids/Reed City also returned to the airwaves. A transmitter relocation was the reported cause of 12 days of darkness from that signal.

Re: NewsNet on WHNE 14.9

Just went to their website and I see Vic McCarty interviewing a guy who wrote a book about Hobey Baker, a hockey star from a century ago on what is apparently called "Midday Edition." Vic looks a bit more normal than he did as a redheaded sports reporter on Channel 7&4 about 20 years ago. If they ma...

Re: WBBL gone

The logistics of the situation is the stumbling block I am referring to. Getting off a plane before a road series starts, or going town to town during one producing an arrival at the airport in the wee hours of the morning, with that 6 a.m. start of show obligation is what seems daunting. You would ...

Re: WBBL gone

So, now that Matt Shepard is the FSD Tigers PBP man, what happens to this Michigan Media Network morning show, "Shep, Shower and Shave?" Does he even complete the Michigan basketball schedule? (I know there are obvious gaps in the Tigers' preseason coverage that can be accommodated, but the MLB regu...

Re: WBBL gone

To me, "the sticks" apply to Big Rapids and other environs 40-55 miles of GR that were served by 107.3's signal. Like today, when I am on my way to Ravenna and then, on to Big Rapids, I guess 590 is going to have to do as a resource for MSU-OSU listening. 1340 doesn't get me much past Cedar Springs,...

Re: Lancelot Link Secret Chimp

Bernie Kopell, who is still among us at the age of 85, voiced a number of characters on that show, including Lancelot's nemesis, Baron Von Butcher. Lancelot's voice sounded like Walter Matthau to me, but apparently Dayton Allen was going for Humphrey Bogart. Always enjoyed when the chimps would get ...

Re: WBBL gone

You get nowhere reading FOX 17's web article about this chance, with a sentence that links 106.1 FM with the WJRW signal and indicates both are in Grand Rapids. (I see by a post down the thread that a translator is coming in on that frequency) I hear Sean Baligian (I believe) on The H*** Show and I ...

Re: Looks like the Orbit Room is finally toast; share your memories here!

Which way to go here...May as well first offer a thought to the question, "Orbit Room closure, what does it have to do with broadcasting?" Considering the number of regional to national acts that performed in the Orbit Room/Club Eastbrook over the years, which were the focus of promotion for area ra...

Re: ENTERCOM STATIONS OFF THE AIR !

This techno-mishap snuffed out their ability to serve as the hub of the Michigan News Network, as well. I remember a visiting cook hooking up a griddle at the Grand Rapids cluster of Clear Channel in early 2000, then going into a studio for an interview. Butter, or something burning on the hot surfa...

Re: Another Local Radio Fail

I admit to not having heard a 5 a.m. WOOD Radio newscast in years, and when that was the case, it offered weather on the ones, no traffic. I thought Kevin's first traffic drop was at 5:21 a.m., which when you consider his coming back in to work 3 to 6:45 p.m. as the back end of a split shift, there'...

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation

Where the freeway crosses Pine Island is a pretty good rise in elevation from the West River intersection, that's for sure. Not to be an "old horse," but I remember tuning in Aris on LAV with a fringe signal when I was up by Reed City in the 80s, and being able to pull in 96.9 by Mt. Pleasant. A thu...
