Re: TV internet precursor

How quaint... the portable aspect was not yet on the radar and I assume he imagined large consoles... very interesting.. 🧐 I think that's what a lot of the predictions were at the time. People as a whole aren't really that great at predicting the future just because we can't break our minds out of ...

Re: Coronavirus is in Michigan

Every element of this, is to avoid overwhelming the hospitals. If we later find that the reaction was overzealous, so be it. Doctors in Italy are making decisions on who lives and dies. Half the people in ICU in The Netherlands are under 50. The mortality rate on this might be only 2%, but the rate...

Re: Media doing social separation

I thought it was pretty ridiculous at first to have the anchors sit farther apart. But honestly, I don't know, I guess it makes sense. It doesn't hurt anything. I think it's natural for the stations to worry about how things look... to have the anchors stating multiple times per newscast to keep 6' ...

Re: The media wants you to panic

I don't see why, unless they really don't have a clue, and then they shouldn't be running a company that big. They don't have to go into details that specifically discuss their own properties, just a bit of the picture of what they are dealing with and some of the steps they are taking. Wouldn't do...

Re: Why Did Channel 4 Stop Reporting Coronavirus Exposure Locations????

Media won't be reporting specific exposure locations anymore. The county health departments have stopped doing it, and that was the source of the info. There is community spread everywhere now, i.e. it's being transmitted person-to-person basically everywhere. It's not containable anymore. They're n...

Re: Post mortem of 98.7 The Breeze's unsuccessful Christmas music run

Just said this on the other thread but yeah, I think there's not nearly enough promotion yet. Of the station as a whole, IMO... but definitely nothing about them going all-Xmas. That was a big opportunity that they blew. I agree the music was stiffer and older. It's like they were trying to recreate...

Re: Detroit PPM analysis by demo

So WRIF still rules the city in every way, basically. Wow. I'm thinking the Dave & Chuck deal will go down as one of the best moves in recent history. Who knew? WNIC dominates with Christmas, of course. I'm thinking people just don't know about the Breeze yet. In general. Those who would have ...

Re: Kevin Dietz out at WDIV

Yikes. So, I kinda don't want to touch this one before we possibly know more of the story, but what the hell, the internet is for hot takes, right? Ha. This seems patently unfair. If the comment was really as innocuous as Deitz says it was, and there wasn't any more to it, it's really sad that his 2...

Macy's parade

Anyone come across any info on what is happening with the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade here in Detroit this year? Obviously WDIV preempts it every year for the Detroit parade. But I was just curious whether the Macy's parade will ever air at all, maybe on tape delay. I know that WDIV used to clear it ...

Re: 98.7 The Breeze (Soft AC) is here!

It's funny because before I came here and read up on what everyone was saying, my thought was, ugh, how boring. Even FORMAT CHANGES are lame now. Format changes used to be so much fun. Okay, they stunted with Christmas music for a couple days. But I can pretty much count off what I'll see in the pre...

Re: Then, there's this.....

The incessant advertising of WDIV's low rated morning show (I won't call it a newscast) during their 5:30p and 6:00p evening newscasts has reached nauseating proportions. They can plug it all they want. The on-air talent stinks. Obnoxious Brandon + Mushmouth the traffic reporter who is incapable of...

Re: Network programming preemptions by individual stations

It's interesting that WDIV seems to currently have a standing deal with WADL to air seemingly any NBC programs they don't clear. And yet, it doesn't seem like there are any other deals like that currently. I've read that in the old days of Late Night with David Letterman in the 80s, WDIV occasionall...

Re: JIM PRICE STINKS!!!

Ah, a sure sign of spring. The annual Jim Price Stinks post. Thanks for bumping this. I'm really interested to see how the experiment works with Dickerson doing pbp on TV on some games this year. It's weird... It seems to me that, regardless of opinions here, Mario and Rod are the most consistently ...
