Re: These Are Soviet Union Style Tactics, Folks, Not "Socialism Lite"

Perhaps the bigger question is, are people encouraged to research this? Sources can be biased, but should there exist credible evidence to support the story, the source is secondary. There's a temptation these days (and I will include myself in this) to judge the merits of a story by who presents it...

Re: Easy 93 flips to Christmas music

100.5 The River in GR was going all-Christmas after Thanksgiving as early as 1998. So was 101.5 The River in Toledo. If I'm not mistaken it was 920 WOKY in Milwaukee, then a standards outlet, that pioneered the all-Christmas format around 1995. But it didn't seem to really become a widespread thing...

Re: Easy 93 flips to Christmas music

Christmas is a religious season that begins December 25th and continues through the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6th. The four weeks leading up to Christmas are the season of Advent. Of course the Madison Avenue version is a different entity. While I enjoy certain aspects of the secular holiday ...

Re: Easy 93 flips to Christmas music

A lot of stations flip to Christmas music shortly after Halloween. The early All-Christmas format really took shape in 2001 during the season following 9/11. I remember when Star 105.7 made the flip in early November with the tag line because we need a little Christmas NOW! It was the first time I h...

Re: Fox 66 or is it just me?

Calvert: you’d think Sinclair could distribute syndicated programming to its stations via a daily satellite feed (like the good ole days). However that only solves one part of the problem. Many of our playback servers still are corrupted with ransomware. It's a nice thought, but I think that ship h...

Re: Fox 66 or is it just me?

I haven't heard of anyone using a backup antenna to pull a sister station for network programming in years. I wonder if that's is even possible anymore with ATSC. That's standard operating procedure at our house. We don't have cable and use a rotatable rooftop aerial for OTA. Having multiple channe...

Less irritating?

So you could just not smoke and avoid the irritation altogether?

Gotta love marketing! :razz

Re: Alec Baldwin shoots and kills a 42-year old woman

The gun was a real gun being used as a prop. You'd normally think a "prop" gun would be something that looks and sounds like a real gun but isn't one, but that's not the case here. My understanding has been that prop guns are basically authentic firearms that are modified to fire blanks instead of ...

Re: Alec Baldwin shoots and kills a 42-year old woman

Firearms used on production sets are traditionally loaded with blanks that expel cotton wads in place of actual bullets. They are essentially harmless provided the firearm is discharged into open space. A point-blank discharge can cause serious injury and possibly fatality. The late Jon-Erik Hexum l...

Re: Monica Harris Retires from Radio

I am sure Calvert DeForest can specify, but Monica was, as I recall, the midday presenter on LS102 when I worked there in the Summer and Fall of '84. I think the late Tim VanHouten was afternoons there, at that time and went by Tim Wilson. Filled in once on a midday shift, the day after the Tigers ...

Re: Which mobile phone MVNOs (mobile virtual network operators) are best?

We use Total Wireless, which is an MVNO off Verizon's towers. Four lines with 100GB shared 4G for $100/month. Great deal compared with Verizon rates and the service meets our needs, no complaints. We rarely hit the data cap (think maybe once or twice in three years), and additional rollover data is ...

Re: CB Skip...it's Back

It's true that FM has shorter range than AM, reducing or eliminating the incentive for FM operators to "talk skip" with high-power amplifiers. It will just be a matter of avoiding channels where that activity is prevalent. Fortunately there's just a month or two of the year when propagation conducts...

Simple, leave the original 23 channels AM or SSB only, channels 24-40 FM primary, AM alternate.
Now if we can just convince the FCC and the manufacturers to set the standard.

This is reminiscent of the AM stereo debacle in the 80's.
