Re: Part-Time Board Op
I'm guessing most of these positions are running board for live sports events. Probably not a bad gig if you're just looking to score some extra cash. Mostly weekend work although there are games scheduled during the week, primarily at night. Hours will fluctuate, and as mentioned, there will be tim...

Re: Stephanie McCoy Gone from WILX
This is the format for local established air talent. The audience tends to be loyal and responsive to familiar voices. It's impressive that Chris Tyler is going out for live remotes and personally interacting with listeners, which is rare if not unheard of today. Good move on Duke's part in adding l...

Re: Happy St.Pats Day and Irish/Celtic music on the radio
WKAR-FM used to air a Celtic music show on Sunday night which was always a good listen. One of my seasonal favorites is the Celtic Christmas Podcasts. They release new shows in November and December. It's beautifully stirring music.

Re: More layoffs going down at Sinclair Stations including Flint
The Diamond/Bally Sports bankruptcy is likely having a ripple effect. Acquiring those regional sports networks has been a disaster for Sinclair.

Re: Congrats to Stacks 92.1
92.1 has gone through many incarnations over the years. I was there during the original K92 Country format in the 80's when the studio was still located on Parks Road south of St. Johns (the current WWSJ Joy 1580 studio). By the time it switched to the WLNZ Lazer format the FM studio had relocated t...

29 is a low-power translator to cover nulls in the channel 10 signal in areas of south Lansing. A lot of full-power TV stations use translators use translators to cover nulls or fringe areas.high fidelity wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 8:27 pmHow do they get to have 2 channels, 10 and 29? Other stations don't get to do that.

Re: WJIM-FM Local Air Talent?
There are only two jocks listed on the site for midday and evening. I would guess they're out-of-market. No air talent listed for morning and afternoon drive. Just says "97.5 NOW FM Staff". The staff link lands on a station promotion page. No names mentioned.

Re: Products whose prices have soared thanks to inflation / supply chain strains / or pure bullshit reasons
We have inflation. I don't like it but have to accept it. What really bothers me how some Companies try to keep the price the same by shrinking the package size. I like V8 juice. I buy it by bthe case at COSTCO 30 X 355 ml cans.. I went in this week to get some and the cans are now 155 ml.. Just se...

President Thomas AM/FM Mobile CB
Released a few months ago, this is the first (and so far only) CB rig on the U.S. market for FM transmission under the new FCC guidelines. Depending on the success of this model, it will be interesting to see what additional manufacturers like Cobra come up with to follow suit. https://www.youtube.c...

Re: Reports Of Possible FM Pirate Near Haslett
I doubt it'd be a pirate on 93.3 FM. That's where the FM translator for WXLA 1180 is located, which delivers a very good signal throughout the entire Lansing area. That station plays a decent dose of music from the 70s, too. Perhaps someone has a legal FM modulator one or two doors over and is usin...

Re: CHYR (when it was 710 AM or 730 AM)
CHYR had a decent daytime signal into Lansing when they were on 710 way back when. WVIC-AM 730 was an AM daytimer that signed off at local sunset, about the same time CHYR made the switch from 710 to 730. I remember the "clockwork" sounds and announcement to tune to 730. As WVIC was usually off the ...

Re: Time for Shortwave in Russia
Hopefully Russia doesn't revert to old-school Soviet jamming of incoming SW signals from outside "the curtain". To my knowledge the U.S. has never engaged in any such jamming. I remember tuning to Radio Moscow in the Cold War days for some entertaining communist propaganda. The announcers always sou...

Re: CNN loses 90% of its audience
The Warner Media/Discovery Networks merger is expected to close sometime mid-year. Discovery will be the controlling partner in the new company. Indications from their top brass are that changes will likely be in the works at CNN once the merger closes. What changes will occur remains to be seen. Th...
