Re: Channel-Sharing, Canadian Style

If you're in Canada, the only retro channel you may be able to get OTA is CHCH. But their selection is pathetic compared to Me, Antenna, etc. And their retro shows only air during daytime hours. No doubt because CHCH wanted to play the simsub game, just like any other commercial station in Canada. ...

Re: iHeartMedia Announces Cost Savings Initiatives

I was expecting them to announce that they're downgrading from a radio equivalent of McDonald's to a radio equivalent of a 7-Eleven.

Re: 90%

I am NOT picking on WLEW by itself, they are just an example, of what is going on Nation wide, to a more/less of a degree. With a lot of sporting and social events cancelled, plus the changes in lifestyle, there's not much else to report. And even if it's something like a weather event, it's hard t...

Re: Channel-Sharing, Canadian Style

Alas, Canadian cord cutters have it rough if they don't live near the border. (Sorry, Newfoundland!) Or even in a large city -- since the digital conversion in 2011, many areas of Canada were left with no aerial television. In the case of Newfoundland, only St. John's has two -- CBC and NTV. St. Jo...

Re: Channel-Sharing, Canadian Style

--Windsorites don't need Global bc they just show in prime time the same as the American networks that we already get OTA.Thats why there is a null towards the US border for protection of the American networks. Doesn't the Cogeco system in Windsor simsub over Detroit if the programs match? And if s...

Would you rather they filled with 800 numbers selling Boxcar Willie CD's or Ginsu knives?
At least those ads make money for the station, while promos and "calm" don't. And stations are still running infomercials on weekends.

Re: CBS News Special Report Intros

Network news certainly has a rich history. Back in those early days when these special reports came on you know it was serious. Nowadays it's just sensationalized and overused and as a result it lost it's impact. Viewers of The Price is Right know the feeling, as 95% of CBS's "special reports" brea...

Re: Channel-Sharing, Canadian Style

So, Corus Entertainment has made four applications on merging repeaters of Global stations onto the main transmitters of their sister stations, in a bid to both cut down on spectrum used for broadcasting, and for electricity from having to maintain multiple transmitters. instead of broadcasting mul...

Re: Channel-Sharing, Canadian Style

If I remember correctly, Global's signal *is* nulled towards Detroit, and yes, it is the most difficult Canadian station for me to pick up, because of that. Don't' fret if you don't receive it, because I often have difficulty tuning in, too! I used to get ch. 22 back in the analog days once in a wh...

Re: TV5’s “A moment of calm”

Yet another reason why I no longer watch the news on TV, as they keep accentuating the negative, and then some. At least I live in a place that has a decent daily newspaper that just states the facts, plus still cover "other news".

Re: Thoughts on daily news conferences

To be brutally honest, most of these news conferences are like The Curse of Oak Island : they take a half hour, or even longer, to present 90 seconds' worth of information. It's not respectful of my time and attention, and certainly not considerate of commercial broadcasters. The news radio station...

Re: Covid 19 Media Layoffs Begin - Entercom

They say the economy will recover the second half of the year but I strongly doubt it. When this crisis ends, they'll be a need for more employees and advertising as places and venues open back up. But of course, this is the media we're talking about, and if the new formula works great now, any bet...

...the town hall meeting is to be hosted by Detroit news anchors Carolyn Clifford of Channel 7, Huel Perkins of Channel 2 and Devin Scillian of Channel 4. So nowhere does it say an anchor from out of state will be participating.
Or outside the Detroit market, for that matter.
