Re: #TuckLeavin

MSU has both Nebraska and Minnesota on its schedule; those are winnable games. Indiana is very winnable; it took OT for them to beat the friggin' Akron Zips. MSU is a better team than Indiana all day long. Iowa might be a lot crappier than everyone was thinking, too. They just lost 31 - 0 to Penn S...

Brief observations

While driving from Grand Rapids to my parents' house today, I noticed a few things: - Several of the big Northern Michigan signals were listenable along parts of I-96 and US-31, such as 88.5 WIAB, 89.3 WTLI, 96.3 WLXT, 105.1 WGFM, 105.9 WKHQ, and 106.7 WSRT, as well as a handful of Flint/Tri-Cities ...

Re: Nielsen #s for GR radio - some significant movements!

If I were in charge of Townsquare GR:

1. Keep WGRD as is
2. Flip 95.7 to country, keeping Big Joe in mornings. I would play at least 2-3 pre-2010 songs per hour
3. WFGR remains as is
4. 100.5 the River adds a Hot AC lean
5. Magic 104.9 shifts to a near-clone of the Block in Kalamazoo/Battle Creek

Re: Nielsen #s for GR radio - some significant movements!

The Game (which is on a signal that covers the market very well) is almost losing to Jethro FM (which is on a daytimer AM and two translators that don't have the best signals)!

Re: Northern Christian Radio buys WLJN/Good News Media

A $1 sale price??? 😲 There's something more going on here than meets the eye. $1 is a price to indicate that some value changed hands. There's likely some donations going on. The Promise FM will finally have a good signal in TC! For years, they've covered most of northern Michigan well with the exc...

Wow. I didn't think all those stations would amount to $12 million...
WBKB having all of the Big Four helps bring that price up. I wonder if the price includes studios, offices, and towers

Re: Relevant Radio expanding into Dayton-Cincinnati

What's sad is the Oasis had developed a pretty loyal following in the Cincy and especially Dayton markets. In the beauty pageant 12+ numbers in Dayton, it was ahead of 92.9, 95.3, 101.5, 103.9 and perhaps others. Dayton has already lost 94.5 & 106.5 to niche programming in the past few years; now i...

Re: Smash Mouth Steve Harwell dies

Not long after the announcement of his death came out yesterday, I heard WIXX spin at least two of Smash Mouth's songs in a row. Many other stations likely wouldn't have adjusted their playlists until this morning.

Re: August 16-22 Tropo Summary

That is impressive! The best I was able to do in the RF hell that is my basement room in Grand Rapids was WCKY from Toledo and a handful of northern Michigan stations (WGFM, WSRT, WJZQ, WKLT, WCCW, and WGFE in addition to the much more common WTCM/WIAA/WOLW). Since WGVU turned off HD Radio a few mon...

Updated ratings!

96.1 the Game (50kW full market signal) is almost losing to Jethro FM (which is on a daytimer AM with two subpar translators)!

Re: KLT wipes the floor clean with The Bear in latest ratings

Manistee County should've never been added to the Traverse City/Petoskey market in the first place.

I wonder what has hurt WTCM more, losing 93.5 or getting its most popular county removed from the market.

Re: Northern Michigan dual TV channel ID

Ben did a better job than me explaining the shortcomings of the current site. It's in a low lying area and signal propagation is definitely hampered by terrain shadowing. As mentioned in another post, there is a lot of signal overlap with WGTQ as well. Usage of a site closer to Petoskey would make ...

Re: Blunder 107.3 earns worst AQH share in brand history

1. 96.1 the Game did even worse (a 0.9 share!)

2. Jethro FM shows up with a 0.7, which is impressive for a daytimer AM with two less-than-optimal translators.

89.3, 89.5, 89.7, 89.9, 90.3 and any number of different channels in the commercial part of the FM band should all be options.
98.1 should be available as WHWL's new full power station is replacing a nearby translator on said frequency.

I wonder if Mr. Yob will bother to get 1110 and 1210 back on-air before they expire?

1210 sits on an old landfill. That can't be good for resale.
1210 is slightly more valuable because it has the translator attached to it
