Re: Downriver AM transmitters
The WRDT.Monroe antenna facility is kinda aimed toward Detroit for sure but the night time signal comes from the multi station tower in the area near Wyoming ave and 8 1/2 mile (Northend) Rd.. in Oak Park township. It's curious that 13 watts still does not reach anywhere near Monore but covers a fai...

Re: VA3 FEZ
2M and other VHF FM seems to be the entry level for Amateur radio. with the Many repeaters in operation it takes no more then a hundred bucks for a China made handheld and not much else. Back in my early days I found it took a skilled builder with good plans to get a rig on the air on VHF ! A few op...

Re: The Strongest Skywaves In The Straits Area Of Northern Michigan
There were two high power (10-50 kW) stations in SSM, ON for many years, I even had heard one of them here in Detroit a few times at night, Listened to them when on Vacation in northern Lower MI. Now they are on FM. No longer heard below the bridge. Google earth now shows empty lots where the antenn...

[quote=innate-in-you post_id=608646 time=1589588200 user_id=147ground as I recall. Old timers called it "Fadey KA". [/quote] If you think WWJ is strong at the Strait, go further east to Sudbury. Wear a lead suit for your own RF safety. I've never been impressed with KDKA's signal (same goes for WTAM...

Re: The Strongest Skywaves In The Straits Area Of Northern Michigan
I think they were always just intended to be placeholder allotments, kind of like staking a claim. Canada went through and allotted nearly every possible allotment on FM in cities near the US Canada Border. They aren't as problematic as you might think, as they are only protected on Canadian land, ...

Re: The Strongest Skywaves In The Straits Area Of Northern Michigan
Canadian radio once used high power AM to cover the Bush in the northern area but I guess now they think the bushlanders all have satellIte radio and they only want to spend for the FM coverage in the populated areas. A L O T of AM power houses have shut down across Canada ! I care because I am half...

Re: The Strongest Skywaves In The Straits Area Of Northern Michigan
Great list, I was thinking Zoomer radio was directional at night but it may have been CFRB.
I was trying to find a strong Detroit station that I could hear in the FL Keys, but WJR had a competing signal from Tampa area and the other ones are all directional to the north.

Some years ago I heard a Tulsa station opreating on day time antennas , overpowering CFTR from Toronto ! It was during an ice storm with many jack knifed trucks blocking the hiways.

Re: Bowtie Antenna Calculator
One time I was working on the road and staying in motel rooms , took a good Stereo receiver with headphones , Made a wire loop one wavelength for 95 mHz. 10 ft 7 inches long, I just attached the ends to the 300 Ohm balanced input and ran the loop up to the corners of the room. It sure worked. Maybe ...
