Re: Long Songs
Neil Young was mentioned earlier- he had two long songs on 2007's "Chrome Dreams II" album. "Ordinary People" ran 18:13, and "No Hidden Path" was 14:31. He's put long songs on a number of his albums, but not usually two on the same collection. Neil has released numerous previously unreleased tracks ...

Re: R. Dean Taylor dies
Sorry to read that. I also liked his songs "Taos New Mexico" and "Gotta See Jane", both occasionally heard on CKWW, AM 580.

Re: WLUC fires Weather Staffer
https://www.linkedin.com/in/karl-bohnak-6337636 Looked up Karl's LinkedIn page, and it says he works for Barrington Broadcasting, which sold their stations and ceased to exist over 8 years ago. Doesn't seem like he remembered his account existed, or else it's some statement of defiance against chang...

Re: 1480 & 850 Shutting Down
Thanks. I'm still sore about the school tossing away the stations, but that disappointment isn't much different than any time I saw management or ownership take a good thing and ruin it by basing decisions on economics or personal bias rather than what the listener might really want. One wonders how...

Re: This TV 4.2 OTA
Not much different than any of the OTAs where they turn a 20 minute sitcom into a 30 min infomercial. Some cable channels like to take those "feel-good" half-hour sitcoms and toss in an extra 6-7 minutes of ads per episode. They figure you won't notice or care much if that favorite scene is coming ...

Re: 1480 & 850 Shutting Down
Thanks for clarifying how the scenario went down. I had suspected that the value of the land being sold was the only real consideration, and the virtue of the public aspect of the station was also the fault of the "not-in-the-broadcasting-business-so-not-too-concerned-about-whether-the-listeners-lik...

Re: WGVU Oldies sign will off at 2PM 1/7/2022
The montage was chronological from the late 50's to the early 70's, created by WGVU for when they signed on, I believe.

Re: 1480 & 850 Shutting Down
After playing a montage that they said started the format, there was some of the news sounder, NPR News starting, then silence, then the song Bob Mason said he played to start his career in 1969, "Jean" by Oliver, began playing. We heard a bit more of NPR News mixed in with the song for a moment, th...

Re: 1480 & 850 Shutting Down
Back when, the top 40 included a wide range of music styles, and lesser-known artists could catch a break with a hit here and there. Oldies or Classic Hits stations tend to focus on what hit the top 20 and has tested well in their research. That's knocking out the variety that made that era's hit ra...

The WARD call letters could be acquired by someone to form an informal network dedicated to the preservation of "Leave It To Beaver", joining WJUN-AM in Mexico, PA, WBEV-AM in Beaver Dam WI, and WALY-FM in Altoona, PA. They could run programming like the old "Breakfast With The Beaver" comedy bits t...

Listened to the second half of the John O' Leary podcast from Radio Daze today. It was entertaining, and great to hear him again, but bittersweet to hear him speaking of the future with optimism.

[Casey Kasem] later famously hated doing a Long Distance Dedication about a little dog named Snuggles, so I guess his stardom had gone to his head. As I heard, he was having a tough day that day -- eventually, a proper Long Distance Dedication for Snuggles made the cut of that week's AT40, though t...
