Re: Churches touting politicians should pay taxes
The IRS could really strike gold by going after churches. For churches who don't pay local taxes: No cops, no fire department, no trash pick-up, and nobody shovels snow off the streets in fron of churches. The reason churches claim the right to people's money: When the Israelites invaded Cannan, 11 ...

Re: When TV was Great
Thanks to the Wigel OTA sub-channels a lot of shows not seen in years are available. Problem is some I fondly remembered did not hold up well at all but a few are really (IMHO) evergreen: The Andy Griffith Show. The Beverly Hillbillies I Love Lucy Maverick Have Gun Will Travel Richard Greene in The ...

Re: General Detroit Movie Thread.
IMHO Bill Kennedy was the best - most interesting, most informative, most fun - movie host. I've seen different hosts in different cities plus Bob Dorian when AMC showed classic movies and Robert Osborne on TCM but nobody did it better (makes me feel sad for the rest). Kennedy had a lot of inside go...

Re: How Did Democrats Become So Out of Touch With the American People?
Neither is out of touch with all of the "American people." Democrats are focused on (and pandering to) minority victim/entitlement groups. Republicans are focused on (and pandering to) working class rednecks, specifically Bible Bangers, gun nuts and bigots. Of course, both parties work for the one p...

Re: Radio Stations And Personality References In The Movies
Not from a movie but in the original Broadway production of Grease, a recording of Joe Niagra (WIBG, Philadelphia) was played before the show started. The theater was done up to look like a high school auditorium. Great effect.

Re: When TV was Great
TV IS great. Not network TV. Almost all the good stuff is streaming (or, for the time being, on cable until cable is fully obsolete).

Re: WDIV Local 4 preempting MLB on NBC this Sunday
Looks like NBCU is going to have a really stern talk with both stations in Detroit and in Houston. NBC isn’t nearly as tolerant as they were 40 years ago. They don't own DIV. The station is responsible for what goes on the air - not the network. NBC has no leverage here. NBC can always put any pree...

Re: Hmmm,is the news drought at CBS62 about to come to an end?
Not happening!! With a major election year coming and the Covid crap going on, CBS wants a news operation in one of their top 15 markers. Having no newscast last year in the middle of a pandemic was an eye opener. Also, with Fox having an O&O here locally and with the new NFL contract, in addition ...

'KAR has gone to pot since the professors started running it. Worst of all 'UOM constantly kicks its miserable ass.

Re: Hmmm,is the news drought at CBS62 about to come to an end?
If the suits at Black Rock have half a brain, they will leave well enough alone. Local TV news is dying. It has gotten so bad it deserves to die. Metamucil can find other places to buy time. It seems the only way local stations can make money out of a news department is to expand to five o'clock, fo...

Re: Respecting Legacy On Air Staff
I remember Martha Dixon from the old WJIM in Lansing. She was respected for her years of dedication and allowed to leave on her terms with great fanfare. Local advertisers did like Martha. She gave a lot more than the 30 second spot they bought. But mostly her success longevity from sleeping with H...

Re: WJBK schedule question
Channel 2 has tried 4pm news may times in the past with lackluster results. I would be surprised if they tried it again plenty of other crap syndicated shows out there they could pick up or move. TMZ would do well at 4pm It doesn't cost a station much extra to add an hour of local news to the sched...

Re: WJR News Analysts
WJR holds the world record for the longest time spent circling the bowl. Yes, it's worse than five years ago and five years ago was worse than 10 years ago. The decline started even before J.P. died, although it sped up after that. Each owner after Cap Cities has tried to put its own nail in the cof...
