Re: Political Ads

I was in Florida for a few days a couple of weeks ago and it seemed like every other ad was a political ad (usually for either the governor or senate race; very few if any ads were for congressional seats)

Re: No TV Signals in south UP

Surprisingly Newberry, Munising, and Manistique never had translators of any kind. I wonder if they had cable very early (meaning late 50s/60s).

Re: No TV Signals in south UP

What did all those translators you mentioned air? I know of the following:
W14CE was // WLUC
W28BX was // WBKP (pre-WBUP)
W31BK was // WGBA
W40AN (and W72AJ before that) was // WLUK
W40AY was // WGKI
I've never heard of W08BG, W20BZ, W30AK, W35AK, or W76AI

Re: Blarney Stone Broadcasting acquiring Northern Broadcasting

Today when driving around Manistee, I noticed 92.3 (WBNZ) is airing sports and 99.3 (WQAN) is airing rock slightly behind WQON. Likely not quite full power, because they seemed weaker than WGFE and WGFN

Re: WLAV's failed tower move to Butterworth dump site, and now - the aftermath!

If WLAV moves out to Allendale permanently with a downgrade to B1, could a COL change happen (to somewhere like Jenison, Hudsonville, or Grandville, none of which have stations licensed to them AFAIK)?

Also, WWCM should be able to upgrade from 3kW all the way to 25kW.

Re: Blarney Stone Broadcasting acquiring Northern Broadcasting

In northern mason county. WLDR is coming in better now. Wonder if they are back to full power or close to it, also sounds like a hot ac/ac hybrid. Wbnz is static and wouf doesn’t even come in here but in TC it’s really strong, Wonder where wouf is broadcasting from? In Manistee, I've noticed WLDR i...

From Washtenaw County: Farthest AM: Probably Cuba. The only Cuban signal I can still hear regularly is the beautiful music station, Radio Enciclopedia, on 530. Farthest FM tropo: WTTS 92.3 Bloomington, IN Farthest FM E-skip: WEOW 92.7 Key West, FL Farthest FM tropo ever: then-WTFX 100.5 Louisville,...

If I were Barrington, here is how I would have done it:
WPBN: RF 4 from Harrietta
WTOM: RF 7 from Cheboygan
WGTU: RF 29 from Kalkaska
WGTQ: RF 8 from Goetzville

Re: Most distant AM/FM/TV signal you ever tuned in?

I only keep track of FM, but the farthest I have heard via tropo is 102.3 KRNY out of Kearney, Nebraska. I've heard that twice from Manistee, MI (in 2016 and 2018) on a Tecsun PL-390

What happened to channel 40 (WLUK Fox 11 translator) in the Escanaba area? The license for W40AN-D was renewed as recently as March 2016.
I wonder if Fox told them to shut it down. I'm still surprised W40AN-D wasn't sold to Gray with WLUC

Re: WLAV's failed tower move to Butterworth dump site, and now - the aftermath!

Running the FMPower application, 9.4kW @ 161m is near maximum Class B1 (max B1 at 161m is 9.5kW).

If WLAV were to downgrade to B1 using the GVSU STA as its permanent facilities, would the 96.9 over in Standish (currently 3kW Class A) be able to upgrade to a 6kW A or even C3?

WQAN's CP would make it only the second commercial station (and third overall) to have TC, Cadillac, and Manistee inside its 60dBu contour

Re: Blarney Stone Broadcasting acquiring Northern Broadcasting

IMHO, the Henderson stations pair better with Blarney Stone than the NBI stations, and I have thought that for a while.

I also see where the WOUF calls have been moved over to 100.1 (CP 100.7).
